ECHOES OF THE PAST(A 4 PART STORY)

PART ONE:

Kelly Phillips surprises Annie one day when she asks her to tutor her with her math homework.After some persistence and a rather large salary offer,Annie concedes despite her suspicions.Remarkably,Kelly proves to be a friendly and nice student and does not do anything suspicious when she is at the Mack house.Annie is cold towards her and does not give in to her charms despite the fact that she is really trying to be friendly.Both Alex and Ray are dumbfounded.

Unknown to either Alex,Ray,or Annie,Kelly has some secrets of her own but not what they think.After coming home after her first tutoring lesson,Kelly goes straight to her room and starts doing some unusual things.First she takes her vital signs,heart and respiration rate using a stethoscope with the word BULLDOG engraved on it.Then she uses a sphygmometer to monitor her blood pressure.Her mother enters the room as Kelly is about to draw her own blood and says that she should let the family doctor do the physical examination not her.Kelly just says that she is just saving the doctor some work and says that her mother knows that she is capable of doing one herself.Nevertheless,Mrs Phillips is worried about her daughter and asks her if she is really sure about going back to Los Angeles and returning to her old career she spent 6 years of her childhood building up.Kelly is adamant about it and her mother relents.

The next day,Alex gets a surprise visit from Kelly after school.Kelly apologizes for her mean spirited attitudes towards her and explains that she only teased her to impress her friends.She then leaves but Alex follows her and convinces Kelly to allow her to treat her at the Half Life.The two have a heart to heart talk about life and Alex learns that Kelly had leukemia when she was 5 but went into remission a year later.She has been having yearly checkups since and is particularly worried about her latest upcoming checkup.She also states that she is leaving Paradise Valley for an indefinite amount of time.It gets late and Kelly walks Alex home.When they arrive and Kelly leaves,Annie tells Alex never to associate with Kelly again but Alex scolds Annie harshly and refuses to not see Kelly again even if it runs the risk of having her secret powers discovered.

The following morning,the grade 8 class of Danielle Atron Junior High is going to selected locations in Los Angeles for career day.Alex,Ray,Nicole,Robin,and Louis are among the group and much to Alex’s chagrin,Annie is acting as chaperone along with Miss Harris.Alex and her friends are going to LA County hospital to meet the legendary Dr. K.P. Andrews,the youngest medical school graduate in history and 13 year old surgical intern whose interview with a reporter caused her to be a media figure both for and against the rights of children.She just happens to be Annie’s and Nicole’s hero and both are looking forward to meeting the legend herself.

As they are about to enter the schoolbus,everyone is surprised to see Kelly Phillips enter as well.She is carrying her luggage and has been allowed to use the schoolbus to transport her back to Los Angeles.Alex decides to sit next to Kelly to her friends shock and Annie’s chagrin.The trip to Los Angeles is uneventful for a while and Alex and Kelly continue to talk as friends.Alex notices that Kelly is wearing a stethoscope and thumbing an engraving that reads the word BULLDOG.

Then suddenly,a car smashes into the bus and the schoolbus is knocked into a ditch near the side of the road and tipped on its side.

PART TWO:

Once they recover from the shock of getting into a car accident,Miss Harris,Annie and Kelly spring into action.Miss Harris tells everyone to calm down and immediately calls 911 on her cellular phone.Everyone is trying to leave the bus but Kelly calls for assistance.Alex slammed her head hard on one of the seats during the accident and suffered a severe head trauma.She is unconscious and Kelly gets some of the students and the bus driver to carry her out carefully since gasoline can be smelled and therefore everyone must leave the bus.

Alex then comes out of her coma but is delirious.Something in the back of her mind keeps popping up but she can’t quite put her finger on it,especially in her state of mind.She keeps mumbling about Dr. Bulldog.

Meanwhile,Kelly is trying to help the others as best she can,but winds up fighting with Annie over how to handle the situation.Over a serious wound on Louis’ leg,Annie insists on putting a tourniquet but Kelly intercedes and says that pressure on the wound using a bandage.Miss Harris agrees with Kelly and strangely tells Annie to let Kelly handle the situation.Louis defers to Kelly given that he could lose his leg through cutoff circulation by using a tourniquet.Kelly then goes about dealing with other injured passengers with efficiency until the paramedics arrive.When they are about to leave the crash site and go to the hospital,Annie grabs Kelly by the arm and asks her where she learned her medical skills.Kelly at first states that she took a first aid class but Annie states that even the best first aid class doesn’t teach students the amount of medical knowledge that Kelly seems to have.Then Miss Harris steps between the two and tells Annie to go with her sister in one ambulance while Kelly goes with Louis in another.

At the hospital,the passengers are taken care of and Alex is sent to the ICU for observationAfter given a clean bill of health by the ER doctor Kelly begins wandering the hospital.She seems to know her way around and finds her way to the surgical ward.There she finds the surgical resident’s locker room.Looking around she finds a locker with the name tag BULLDOG.Somehow knowing the lock combination,she opens the locker and begins rummaging through its contents as if they are her own.

Meanwhile,Alex has regained consciousness and is talking with her friends about the accident.Ray,Nicole and Robin tell Alex about Kelly’s strange yet heroic behaviour after the crash.Annie then mentions that she could have sworn that Kelly’s actions were almost as if she were an EMT(emergency medical technician) or doctor.Louis mentions that Kelly had a stethoscope with her too.At that Alex also claims that she saw Kelly wearing the stethoscope as well and remembered the word BULLDOG engraved on it.Nicole is somewhat disbelieving since only Dr. K.P. Andrews carries a stethoscope with that engraving.But Annie remembers reading somewhere that Dr. K.P. Andrews took a leave of absence a few months after finishing her internship year.It was a year ago at about the same time Kelly first came to Danielle Atron Junior High.There is a tense pause as the group has come to a surprising realization.

A realization that is confirmed when Kelly Phillips enters the room after eavesdropping on their conversation in surgical scrubs.She says that she is Dr. K.P. Andrews and Kelly’s secret identity is revealed.

PART THREE:

Alex is recovering in the hospital for her head trauma while all the other students head back to Paradise Valley.Kelly stays in Los Angeles and has convinced LA County General’s chief of staff to allow her to resume her career as a surgeon at that hospital. Kelly starts immediately even though she does not have to start work till next week.

Still dumbfounded by the fact that their idol is really Kelly Phillips,Annie,Nicole,Robin ,Ray and Louis follow Kelly around.Ray and Louis are just staying in the hospital to keep Alex company and decide to try their hand at playing doctor for lack of anything to do.They are driving hospital staff crazy and rubbing both Kelly,Annie and Nicole the wrong way.

Meanwhile,Vince pays the hospital a visit and specifically asks for Dr. Andrews herself. Since Kelly is Dr. Andrews this once again raises Annie’s suspicions about her.

Kelly and Vince have a private talk in an isolated room.It seems Miss Atron wants to hire Kelly as a research scientist at Paradise Valley Chemical and has been asking for about a year now.Kelly once again has declined claiming that she is a field doctor,not a research scientist.Vince also claims that he wants to hire her personally to help him track down the GC161 kid since she probably goes to the same school.Her medical knowledge might enable her to track the kid down.Kelly then says that she will not be returning to Paradise Valley and has decided to stay in Los Angeles for the duration of her surgial residency. Vince’s persistence falls on deaf ears and Vince leaves the hospital unsuccessful.

Meanwhile,Alex has been moved to a private room.she is to be discharged tomorrow and Mr. and Mrs. Mack are on their way to Los Angeles after hearing about the accident. Annie,Ray and Alex talk about what to do about Kelly Phillips.Alex suggests telling Kelly about their secret but Annie distrusts Kelly.Surprisingly,Ray agrees with Alex having seen Kelly in a different light.Alex even suggests that Kelly’s medical training can make her a valuable ally and a possible chance to expose Miss Atron once and for all.Annie relents.

Then there is a knock on the door and Kelly enters.She asks that she and Alex have some privacy and Annie and Ray oblige.Once they are gone,Kelly then tells Alex that she won’t be returning to Paradise Valley until her residency is finished.She thanks Alex for her friendship and then asks her to give Scott Green an envelope explaining her absence.Alex makes a plea to Kelly not to leave so soon and is about to tell Kelly her secret when there is another knock on the door.

A nurse urgently tells Kelly that the hospital has implemented Disaster Protocol.A building has been partially destroyed by a gas explosion in the downtown area and LA County General Hospital will be taking the brunt of the victims.Kelly rushes to the ER(emergency room) to help but the hospital’s chief of staff wants a physician there to assess the situation and provide assistance.Kelly volunteers.Worried about her friend,Alex tags along with Kelly despite Kelly and Annie’s objections and even goes into the helicopter that is taking Kelly to the accident scene. Because of the urgency of the situation,the helicopter takes off anyways.

At the scene,there are people trapped in the partially collapsed building.Kelly decides to go in the building against the fire chief’s good judgement.Alex goes with her refusing to let Kelly face the danger without her helping out and rather than risk wasting precious seconds Kelly relents.In the building,Kelly helps stabilize a man in cardiac arrest and the man is moved out.But before Alex and Kelly can react the room they are in begins to desintegrate and the girls are separated from the rest of the group and trapped in the room when a roof collapse burries the room’s only entrance.Then a large cabinet falls and almost hits Alex but Kelly pushes her out of the way in time.Unfortunately the cabinet hits Kelly and pins her to the ground.

PART FOUR:

Kelly is seriously injured and is unable to move because of the cabinet.It is too heavy for Alex to move by herself (without using her powers).Kelly is going into shock and losing a lot of blood.

Meanwhile,Mr. and Mrs. Mack arrive at the hospital and learn that Alex and Kelly are trapped in the collapsed building.They immediately head to the site along with Ray,Louis,Annie,Nicole and Robin.

Time is running out for Kelly and Alex.The roof is about to cave in and Alex knows that she might have to use her powers to save them both.Knowing that she will probably die, Kelly tells Alex that she has always looked up to her with admiration and respect.Alex says they are not going to die and even admires Kelly for her courage having gone through medical school and an internship.The two have gotten a new respect for each other for the past week.Then Kelly loses consciousness and Alex knows she must act immediately.Alex uses her zappers to blast away the rubble blocking the entrance to the room.She then morphs both she and Kelly and frees Kelly from under the cabinet.She slithers them both out of the building.Just before they leave though,Alex morphs them back to normal and somehow manages to carry Kelly out of the building.

Kelly is rushed to LA County general in time and will eventually recover with no permanent injuries.Kelly’s mother,sister,and Scott are there to make sure she is fine and to keep her company.Alex,Annie,and their parents get to know Kelly’s family.Alex comforts Jackie over the trauma of almost losing her sister while Annie and Mrs. Phillips have a heart to heart talk about Kelly’s decisions concerning her career.Mrs. Phillips is worried about Kelly jumping the gun and losing her childhood completely.George Mack then states that the chief of staff at Paradise Valley Memorial Hospital is a close personal friend and believes that he can convince him to allow Kelly to be transferred there.Mrs. Phillips is elated and agrees to it if Kelly will.

Meanwhile,Alex tells Scott about Kelly’s secret but Scott says he already knew.He first met Kelly in the ER when he was in a minor car accident last year.He told Miss Harris when he got back to Paradise Valley and it was Miss Harris that convinced Kelly to come to Paradise Valley and live the life of a normal teenager.

Later on,the story ends as Alex visiting Kelly in her private hospital room one last time before she returns to Paradise Valley.Kelly is still asleep.Alex holds Kelly’s hand and tells her about her father’s idea.She makes one last plea for Kelly to return to Paradise Valley. She then leaves.

I don't mean to be pushy but I just want to know what other Alex Mack fans think of this story.I thought it would have done wonders for the show because it takes Kelly Phillips,the most popular girl in Paradise Valley and gives her a chance to shine as a person.After all,having the most popular girl being snobby and selfish is kind of one dimensional and not very original.It might be fun to have a snobby popular girl moonshining as a heroic individual,just as Diego de la Vega was a filthy rich landowner while at the same time rode as the legendary Zorro!

Before I finish,you think you can answer the following.If this had been an episode set between the second and third seasons:

1.What major changes would have occured in the show?
2.How would it have affected the relationship between Alex,Annie,and Ray?
3.What would the relationship between Kelly and Annie be like after a story like this?
4.What story ideas could be created as a result of this story?
5.Personally,I think I am accurate in the fact that Alex may try to lure Kelly back to Paradise Valley and try to get her back to being a normal teenager.Especially once she sees the intense dedication and sacrifice Kelly must endure to achieve her status as a competent surgeon.Any comments?
6.Is there a better timeline where this story should be set?
7.How would Ray,Nicole,Robin,and Louis feel and react to Kelly after this story (other than what is already mentioned)?
Well,Thank you for lending me your ear.I guess I am practically at your mercy in regards to this story.But who knows,maybe you'll like it!I guess I'm just throwing some thoughts around.Well thanks anyways!
