There are four specific criteria by which the films are judged. They are:
1. Personal impact.
2. Number of viewings in my lifetime
3. Story, techniques, script, and acting
4. Number of lines of dialogue that can be used to pick up babes.
Scorsese directing Deniro, what more needs to be said. Deniro, is Travis Bickle, an unforgettable nobody who becomes a somebody, unintentionally. Awesome
Bill Murray is the best comic actor working today. He is a pimp in this movie, and the opening scene is priceless. The Dan Aykroyd-Harold Ramis script is perfect.
A completely unique idea, the anti-western western. With a cast like Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, and Richard Harris, there is a zero percent chance of making a bunk film.
Jack at his finest. A regular man in an insane assylum, and watch the story unfold. The writing and dialogue are completely awesome in this film.
I thoroughly enjoyed Bogdanovich's coming of age story of a small town adolescent. Oddly enough, this is the second Larry McMurtry novel adaptation to be in my top twenty.
Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek are the most innocent mass murderers ever. Their immature beliefs and thoughts and actions lead the view to not judge them harshly. Plus, the "white trash" factor of the movie, also adds to the greatness. Terrence Malik turned out an excellent film.
The best mystery I have ever seen. This movie turned me on to the Kevin Spacey phenomenon, he is completely awesome, and so is Gabriel Byrne. This film, which has unfairly been compared to Pulp Fiction (apples and oranges) is a contorted tale which is very unpredictable, and the unfolding of the truth is astounding.
I thank Mrs. Swenor for showing me this movie in fifth grade. This movie made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Quaid, Sheppard, Harris, and co. were awesome, and Philip Kaufman's direction was excellent in this piece of art.
Most of the brat pack in full effect. Another fantasy story of mine. Teens fending off the overpowering Communists, in the hills, on their own. How many of you played guns and fought the Russians?
Deniro. Nothing more. Deniro. This is why the man is the greatest actor ever. Method acting was taken beyond the limit in this film, and behind Scorsese's direction, the best film of the 80's.
Kurosawa's masterpiece. Probably one of the most influential films ever produced, this movie spawned the classic Western, The Magnificent Seven. A universal tale of heroism which has and will stand the test of time.
The best John Wayne movie ever. John Ford's masterpiece presents the audience with a different view of the "good guy." A challenge to the conventionality of the Western, John Wayne deserves a movie in the top ten, and this is the one.
Probably the most watched movie of my childhood. As a little leaguer, this was the movie of all movies. I wanted to be Roy Hobbs when I grew up...and stii do, now that I think about it.
The mobster film by which all mobster films are judged.
This is the best "old" movie ever. I wish I could have seen the world premier of this movie. I was entertained throughout the whole movie.
The best war movie of all time. Plus some good pickup lines ("Alabama black snake")
THE Pacino film. His best performance in any film. This is the second best gangster film ever. A masterpiece.
This is a story that any member of a small town can appreciate. A David versus Goliath tale which takes place on a basketball court. This is the best basketball movie ever, and Gene Hackman is awesome.
From the Pullitzer Prize winning novel by Larry McMurtry, comes this six hour movie (mini-series, tv movie, whatever). Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Duvall put on awesome performances. When i think of how i wanted to be a cowboy as a little kid, this is the story i would have wanted to be a part of .
It is not often that sequels are better than originals, but this one is. With the two greatest actors of all time (Deniro and Pacino) at their best, how can any movie be better?
