V. Books 98 Degrees at Jakes

V: Ah. I have been looking all over for you. Guess who I booked at Jake's tonight.

Ned: Um --

V: 98 degrees! Hi, everybody.

Chloe: Hi.

Alexis: Oh, hi.

V: Can you believe it?

Jax: Wow, 98 degrees?

Alexis: That's great.

V: Yeah, they wanted to play at a small club, so I convinced them to add Jake's to their northeastern tour. I think they might be label-shopping.

Ned: Great.

V: Yeah. If L&B lands 98 degrees, the music industry will start taking us seriously. Miguel won't look like some kind of indy fluke. And to be booked in such a small place. It's a real coup.

Ned: Well, congratulations. That's terrific. Just terrific.

V: Yeah.

Jax: Great.

V: So, should I set up a table for all of us tonight, and then, you know, afterwards, you and I can go backstage after the gig and -- who knows?

Ned: Oh, no, no, no. Not tonight. No, that's -- that's not going to work tonight.

V: I just booked one of the hottest bands in the country, and you're telling me not tonight?

Ned: Yeah. Well, we are in the middle of a tricky negotiation.

Alexis: Very tricky, yeah.

Ned: Yes.

V: They have a platinum album, boss. Been on the charts for months.

Ned: Yeah. Yeah, well, great. Well, you're going to have to take care of it.

V: Who are you married to? I mean, the deal of the moment or L&B? If you're serious about expanding L&B, you have to show up at this gig tonight.

Simon: Chloe, are you upset about something?

Chloe: I'm fine.

Simon: Hmm. That's exactly what you said when that socialite wore her gown backwards at the Waldorf. Remember?

Alexis:Oh, I'm sure it was lovely -- the design, I mean -- either way.

Ned: Chloe is taking her position on the E.L.Q. Board very seriously.

V: I thought you resigned from E.L.Q.

Alexis: We're just working out the details.

Chloe: It's a lot of work.

Simon: Oh. Don't tell me you've caught the American work ethic.

Jax: Not just Americans, mate. So, if you don't mind --

Ned: V, this deal that we're working on is going to really benefit L&B in the long run.

V: Sure. No problem.

Ned: It's not like you're going to be going alone, is it?

Simon: Not at all.

V: Uh-uh.

Ned: Well, good. Then just tell the band that I'll be meeting with them as soon as possible.

V:Sure.

Chloe: Bye.

Ned: Have a good time tonight.

Jax: Yeah.

Alexis: Have fun.

Ned: See you later. Thanks for coming by.

Jax: Yep. Ciao.

Chloe: Oh.

Jax: Why didn't we tell them?

Ned: Oh, that's great. We aren't even sure what the story is, so why don't we just tell everybody. No. Until we come up with a plan, we aren't leaving this room! Now, are you in?

Simon: What can I get you to drink?

V: Cranberry juice. I'm working.

Simon: You know, you can handle this deal all by yourself.

V: Ned pretends to be interested, but when I need him -- I don't know - maybe it's just me.

Simon: Never say that.

V: Maybe I'm trying too hard to make something work again. You know, I thought L&B was where I belonged. And I've word so hard. But for what? He can't even manage to come out on a night that I booked one of the hottest bands in the country?
Simon: If you were to ever leave his company, Ned would be the loser.

V: You don't have to say that.

Simon: You are so bright, so talented. I truly believe that you could do anything. Did I also mention beautiful?

V: Gee, for a second there, I almost believed you.

Simon: Oh, a second's good. Next time I might try for 30 seconds, and then, who knows? Maybe an entire minute.
