Seriously though,

As regular visitors have noticed, we don't maintain this site any more. But we leave it because thousands of visitors seem to like it. Since we started we are all "3000 days" older. Not only that, since then there are now many new sites that cover the subjects of our site, and better!

We have outlasted (thanks to the goodwill of Geocities) most of the friends in our links that go back to 1997.

Here are some new links that you may wish to follow up:

For Learning

  • For learning about canyons, some route notes, trip reports and beautiful photos, Tom Brennan has a great site at http://www.ozultimate.com/canyoning/

  • For boys who enjoy teaching English to Japanese women (and learning about everything else from them in return), and Japanese men who also appreciate the same subjects, and Japanese girls serious about extending their English skills beyond polite text books, we recommend Kris Dunlop's Young Dude's Guide to Japan. If you visit you should make sure that you check the YD Forums section. :( [2008 September] kawama address fails :( Kris is trying to recreate his site at http://www.ydjapan.com/. There is more action at http://www.dudesjapan.com/ for the forum. It looks like they are no longer the Young Dudes Guide to Japan.

  • For where to go nude outdoors in Sydney (other than on bushwalks, of course), Bob Reed's Free Beach Association is the way to go.http://members.optushome.com.au/nudebeaches/enter.html. [2008 September] also not working :( so see http://www.gangart.com/freebeach/

  • To follow the canyon crowd, here is a yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OzCanyons/.

    For Doing

  • For bushwalking: the National Parks Association still has the biggest program in NSW, it is also one of the cheapest clubs to join. For less money than the price of one commercial adventure you can join NPA for a year and walk nearly every day (but you have to bring your own bento). It has a new web address at http://www.npansw.org.au

  • For Japanese visitors to Sydney wishing to meet Australians to swap languages and meet new friends at outdoor events: (mainly "all you can eat" pulgogi, kimchi and beer Saturday lunch barbeques beside the harbour at Pyrmont). Hoshi cooks while Matt makes sure that the students are satisfied. They also want a few more native English speakers to come - so go for it! You can join Sydney Friends group free here: http://friend.occidentalism.org/ (January 2006 - same food and drink but now sometimes on the grass behind Bronte Beach). Quote:

This site was created to facilitate cultural interchange between Australians and Japanese in Sydney while having a good time. We have organised BBQ's in which an average of 50 people attend. It only costs $10 to participate and BBQ meats and alcohol are included in the price.

Should you be interested in meeting Japanese people in this way, sign up and express your interest on the message board.

  • For paid work in Japan, without having to teach English: Hotel industry paid internships. (Tell Mr Rowe that I sent you.)
