Myanmar Sightings

Until the formation of Myanmar Airways Int'l, Myanma Airways was the flag carrier. Today, through a spate of accidents, Myanma AW is left with a small number of F28s, F27s and a Puma helicopter. Here, a Fokker F28-4000 (XY-AGA) is seen at Bagan's Nyaung-U Airport.

Myanma AW's Fokker F27-400 (XY-AEQ) sports the "Visit Myanmar Year 1996" sticker at Yangon's Mingaladon Airport (RGN).

Myanma AW's Fokker F27-400 (XY-AEQ) climbs out from Mandalay Airport (MDL).

Air Mandalay (6T) operated a trio of ATR72-210QCs on a domestic network including Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, Heho, Thandwe and Sittwe. Additionally, international flights are operated to Chiang Mai and Phuket (only for a short period in end-1996). Here, F-OHFS is spotted at Bagan's Nyaung-U Airport (NYU). One aircraft (F-OHLC) has since gone on lease to Bangkok Airways.

Yangon Airways (YA) acquired a pair of ATR72-210 in 1996, operating a network not unlike that of Air Mandalay. F-OIYA is seen at the end of her delivery flight from Toulouse.

Adding to the small number of civil operators at Yangon Airport is the small fleet of not-so-small Y-8 (Chinese-built versions of the Antonov 12). Four trails of smoke marks the departure path of this elegant giant.

Royal Bhutan Airlines - Druk-Air operates two weekly flights between Paro and Bangkok via Yangon. This link began in 1996 and bridges two of Asia's last frontiers - Myanmar and Bhutan.

Hope you enjoy these little offerings from Myanmar.
