Mr. Pollo Welcomes You

To Hessian Recreation

A common way to spend your leisure time in central Europe (probably elsewhere too) is to meet in large tents, on fairgrounds, and at public festivities, such as the anniversary of a voluntary fire-brigade. To take part in these activities, Marburg, a small picturesque town in Hesse, right in the middle of Germany, is a good place to go. In spring and summer there are lots of festivities in the town and on the surrounding countryside. Every village has its own schedule.

Before moving to Hamburg in 1997, I lived in Marburg, and took part in these festivities. I spent one spring, taking lots of pictures at, mainly with Leica rangefinder cameras (especially for wide angle photography), and also using a Mamiya C 330 for the medium format.
