Input Campground Manager: I would like to bring you up to speed on the current projects that are funded and approved. As you know we have had the project with the sewer for some time. We are getting very close to actually putting the contract out on the street for bids. The design is done and ECUA has put its seal of approval on it. Another aspect will bring in a new country store along with ten resort type cabins and to finally fix the mud road, but we can't fix the road until they lay the sewer because it will run down the middle of the road. We will also upgrade the electrical to 50 amps in selected sites. We are currently removing some of the Tarmac and landscaping that portion to break up the "industrial" look of the area. The biggest of the current projects is the installation of the new phone lines. This will start the first week in March. We are not putting phone service in each site. This will allow us to serve the customer better by allowing EMAIL hookups, FAX services, speed check in with automated credit card machines and to have actual pay phones that work. We have also been busy clearing out campground "A" of brush and under growth and make the campgound more user friendly. We hope to do the same with campgound "B' shortly therafter. Current projects that have been submitted for funding include a 50 slip marina with marina support facility, Waterfront development which includes beaches, boardwalk, ext. lighting, handicapped access to the beach and improving the boat ramp, and thirdly the addition of several more cabins. We have many projects in the works and would love to discuss them with you all. You may contact me at my office at 453-1147 or by email at nttc-pen.mwr-0720@nttc-pen.navy.mil any time. Yours in Recreation, Richard Hahn Park Manager

Input from members: The facility at Lake Pippin is mainly for the folks at Maxwell/Gunter to come down to the Gulf and stay in the fully furnished trailers (the ones left after the hurricane) The campground is not widely used (as far as our experience is concerned) and quite often you can just drive in and get a site without a reservation. I don't know when high season is, but we've never had a problem. We call first and if no one reserves by 4:30 you can get in. Its a great place, great fishing, great hosts. Highly recommended.

From Members: Spent the past two weeks at Patrick AFB. While I was there charging of .50 cents for ten minutes of Email time was eliminated. New policy is free for first 15 minutes. Email plug is in FamCamp office. Plans were also shown at the Townhall meeting for the planned upgrade of 30 plus sites with water and electric in the overflow area, and moving of the current overflow area to the Trap Shooting area which is no longer being used. 2/14/2000
My family and I took our pop-up camper to Cocoa Beach in April. The Fam Camp at Patrick AFB is wonderful! It's on base and has all the facilities one needs. Its close proximity to the Banana River is beautiful. You can watch the sunset and the dolphins and manatees play. The host (who may or not be there next winter season) was a great guy. The bathrooms were spotless! And those who used them, cleaned up after themselves. Unlike a few others that I've been to in the Pensacola area. The park was very well maintained. You could tell that the folks who ran it and the people who stayed there took pride in it. I highly recommend it! MSgt Phil Schulze August 26, 2000

There are 4 spaces, but they have full hookups (E,W,S), and I can't remember them being paved, but I may be wrong about that. Their prices have risen to $16.00 per day, and they are reservation only now. It's a beautiful base - very small - with a marina and boat rentals. Plush landscaping and very quiet. Sincerely, Roslyn

Input from members: Florida Keys are so busy during winter season, it is practically impossible to find camping sites and the price outrageous. Wait till it quits snowing in north or close to Easter. The snowbirds go home for Easter. The Keys are fabulous, however. Suggestions: Long Key State Park at Islamorado, John Pennycamp State Park in Key Largo, Bahia Honda State Park at Marathon, and Sigsbee at the Naval Station in Key West. Good Luck.

March 23, 2000

To the best of my knowledge (I have never stayed there), the CG station on Marathon has four sites, and is pretty tough to get into. In Key West are two/three camps. Sigsbee RV Park on base at Sigsbee has 83 FHU sites at $16 (30a) and $18 (50a). At Trumbo Point Annex are in excess of 300 available dry camping sites at $7/night. During the winter searson, stay in Sigsbee is limited to 14 days, after which a stay of 5 to 12 days (avg) at Trumbo will be necessary before you can get back into Sigsbee. For the last couple of years, MWR KW has allowed up to 30 +/- site at Truman Annex to be used at $7/night, but restricts them to rigs planning to stay the season. In and outs are discouraged. There are many rumors/plans/promises to upgrade a number of sites at Trumbo, perhaps as many as 50, to FHU, but so far it's just talk. All three camps have pros and cons, but the overall offerings at KW are excellent. We have spent 7 of 8 fulltiming winters there and love it dearly.

March 26, 2000

Just an update on the Sigsbee RV Park Key West Naval Air Station. It is a nice 70 full hookup facility 30 Amp service. They have 2 excellent shower and laundry facilities open 24 hours a day. If you don't have satellite TV capabilities you will not be able to view any TV since the only way is on cable and they want to charge the park $60.00 per site per month plus large charge for initial run. There is a computer hook up and computer stations at office Mon-Fri 0800 to 1700. There is a commissary/exchange 3 blocks away, and a 24 hour gas station (only credit cards will work). The price is a little high $16.00 per day and no Golden Age discount. There is a 200 site dry camp overflow located at Trumbo Point.
