Bogart's most remembered film by many has to be Casablanca (1942).  "Play it again Sam" - even though never said, word for word, in the movie - became a Bogie signature and most famous cliché.  The backdrop was World War II during the time, and place, of disillusionment, and cynicism, of the politics of war. Rick Blaine, owner of Rick's Café Américain, faces the war coming to him, a past love (Ilsa - Ingrid Bergman), and having to make a choice between "turning his back" or being, once more, the hero that we came to love and admire.

Clichés abound and we are left with many that are still on the lips of all movie buffs.  See also our Sound Stage.

"Of all the ginjoints, in all the towns, in all the world ... she walks into mine". Rick Blaine (Bogie) after he sees Ilsa in his cafe.

"Play it again Sam" actually came from one of 2 lines in the movie.  Either from Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) "Play it Sam, Play As Time Goes By", or the one from Rick (Bogie) "If you played it for her, you can play it for me - If she can stand it, I can. Play it!".

"Round up the usual suspects", uttered more than once by Claude Rains (Captain Renault)

"Louis, I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship", as Rick and Captain Louis Renault finish the final scene of the movie.
