During an apparently catastrophic and almost lethal BRAIN FART, I broke every rule in the book while digging this 1942D Merc on September 21st 1997 at a vacant lot in Port Neches, TX. This specimen was in incredible condition (about as good as a circulated coin can come) and this picture does not do it justice. It looks like it was probably lost within the first year or so after it was minted. I got in a hurry and got careless and RAMMED my digging tool into the ground, impaling the lady right across her face. Without the scratch, it was probably worth about $5.00( according to the "Red Book" ). Had this been the 1942D (2 over 1) variety, it could have been over a $1000 mistake. Learn from this as I did:. You never know what you are digging up. Treat every hit as if it is the find of a lifetime.

Don't make this STUPID mistake.

Email me and call me POND SCUM. I deserve it.......
