The Shenango Furnace CompanyPhoto taken in Buffalo between 1913 and 1925.
( Left to right ) Colonel James M. Schoonmaker, William P. Snyder Jr., Shenango, William P. Snyder and Wilpen.
All Shenango ships were fitted with luxurious passenger quarters. Carved dark stained oak paneled walls, pressed tin ceilings, luxurious deep, deep pile, wall to wall carpet. Leather heavy "mens club" type chairs, couches and tables. Shined bright bronze portholes, shiny brass door knobs, kick plates and thresholds. Polished copper pantry counter top, refrigerator and sink. In the picture above, you can see the enclosed passenger observation lounge, on the deck directly beneath the pilot house.
Shenango was the type of company where the guys up in the office listened to the guys out on the water. You'll note the Snyder Jr and Schoonmaker have extended bridge wings. So the skipper and mates could get out there and see down the sides of the ships when locking or docking.
