Waikiki Aquarium

On Wednesday, the in-laws needed our shared rental car for their adventures. Since everything we wanted to do that day was accessible by foot or by public transportation, it didn't slow us down not to have a car. We started our day by walking to the Waikiki Aquarium which was a short distance east of our hotel.

This is not a huge aquarium but it had lots to see. Outside there was a large salt water reef tank, similar to ours at home but much, much bigger. I just wish our corals looked that good.

There was another outside exhibit called Edge of the Reef which was constructed to replicate a living coral reef. Water rushed in an out of the tank just like the tides and there were lots of colorful fish living in it.

The indoor exhibits were wonderful, some gorgeous reef tanks, lots of educational exhibits and a large tank with all types of sharks and reef predators. This tank can be seen from the seats in front of the tank or by accessing the Coral Cam from your computer at home! We sat and watched them for awhile before heading to the gift shop. We bought some gifts for people at home and a few things for ourselves before heading outside to the bus stop which would take us to the Foster Botanical Gardens. Fish and flora and fauna, we were getting back to nature all day long!
