I am a plant breeder with interest in the field of applied population genetics. I've been working for EMBRAPA, Brazil, since 1982. My work experince is based on several research programs. I worked at "UEPAE/ Manaus" (CPAA/Manaus), Amazonas State (1982-1987), in agroforestry systems and in the development of native fruit crops such as "guaraná" (Paullinia cupuna var. sorbilis ), "cupuaçu" (Theobroma grandiflorum ), and peach palm (Bactris gasipaes ). In 1988 I joined the CPAC research staff in Brasília, Federal District, as a leader of a program aimed at introducing alternative crops such as castor bean (Ricinus communis ), annatto (Bixa orellana ), sesame (Sesamum indicum ), and guar (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba ) to savanna areas. In 1989 I was also involved in the development of savanna native fruit and wood species such as "pequi" (Caryocar braziliensis ), "baru" (Dipteryx alata ), "cagaita" (Eugenia desynterica ), among others. Currently, I'm a Ph.D. student at Cornell University majoring in Plant Breeding and Biometry. My faculty advisor is Donald R. Viands. My thesis project is about genetic relationships between disease resistance and quality traits in alfalfa. | ||||||
