This was a very unique story created by Mani Rathnam, and I have to totally disagree with the flocks of people who said that this wasn't a great movie. I would rate this movie a 9 out of 10. The only part I didn't like about the movie was the ending. However, I realized later that if they couldn't be together in life, they might as well be together in death. So in this movie they went through all of the SEVEN STAGES OF LOVE. Shah Rukh Khan saved India by dying and Manisha Koirala died for her love. Preity Zinta gave an amazing performance, and she had a clever role in the movie. It was very nice cinematography by Santosh Sivan, it was breathtaking to see the scenery in the "Chaiya Chaiya" song. I loved the "Jiya Jale" song as it showed the awesome scenery of KERALA. This movie showed all of the areas in India, which was breathtaking to see. The story was about a guy who is a radio reporter, Amar(Shah Rukh Khan), and he travels to the north. Here he sees Meghna(Manish Koirala), which isn't her real name. She is portrayed as a very cold hearted person, we can see that she has a lot of resentment and hate in her eyes. The meet a lot, and finally they start liking each other. Then one day she disappears, "just like the sand on the beach washed away by the water". He then returns to his house, where his parents have set up a wedding with a Malayalee girl, Preeti(Preity Zinta). He agrees to the wedding as he doesn't want to think about Meghna anymore. Then on the day of his engagement Meghna comes to his house asking for a job at the Radio station he works at. He agrees. The engagement goes on as planned, but Amal still has feelings for Meghna and vice-versa, but she doesn't show it. To know what happens to Manisha Koirala, Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta I'll let u go to the movies and watch this movie to find out. It's worth seeing in the theaters.
