Cairo was founded almost 1000 years ago, and is the largest city on the continent of Africa. We were able to view the city from an old fortress called the Citadel which is on the city hilltops and there we were able to see a wonderful view of gardens, squares, palaces and mosques with beautifully carved domes and minarets. we could see the broad river Nile with it's many islands and the river valley spotted with many groups of date trees and palms.
This afternoon we were off to see at the Plateau of Giza one of the original seven wonders of the world The great Pyramids & the
great mysterious Sphinx.
If your Brave! you can approach the the pyramids on a camel or a horse trust me
unless your completely crazy pass on the horses..they have NO!TRAINING...These
horses are broken buy they hate being ridden I speak from experience!
Today The greatest treasures are spread before us. At the Egyptian Museum we were able to see the contents of the tomb of Tutankhamun. There are beautiful carved
alabaster vessels, solid gold masks, and inlays of ebony and ivory, which truly make up a kings treasure! The many other exhibits summarize the many sights experienced on the
Upper Nile.
While most of Egypt's heritage is rooted in ancient civilazation, Cairo is the capital of a modern nation grounded in Islamic traditions. This cultural aspect comes to reality as
we visit the Mosque of Sultan Hassan and climb to Citadel of Saladin, The view is spectacular.
And of Course Who could go to Egypt and not see and shop at the colorful bazaars of Cairo!! Especially the famous Khan Khanlili Bazaar which is a experience within its self, not to be missed!!
