~ Welcome To MY HOME the Paradise known as : the Gold Coast !! ~

Gold Coast [Page One]

" The Gold Coast - a forty-two kilometre strip of white sandy beaches, stretching from The Broadwater in the north to the twin towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads in the south, and punctuated by a series of rocky headlands. To the west the Border Ranges, a vast natural region made up of the MacLeay and MacPherson Ranges, are covered in tropical and sub-tropical rainforest. To the east, the vastness of the Pacific Ocean and its effect on climate - a comfortable year-round warm temperature, with winters of a bout 21C. "
[4th August 1996- I am experiencing winter weather at the mo’ ..not! Only the last 2 days -including today- have been what I call ‘summer weather’ quite warm ..I am in shorts and a short-sleeve top..not usual winter garb 4 me!]
" The Mt Warning Shield Volcano resulted from volcanic activity 23-30 million years ago, slow flowing lava produced the high wide plains we now see, and the steep rocky pimples so common a short distance inland represent the central plugs of the volcanoes, exposed by later erosion. The whole area has been recognised for its uniqueness to Australia, and has been set aside as a World Heritage Area. ... The unique fauna of the Gold Coast and hinterland is one of the most diverse in Australia. "
" Added to the natural attractions of the region are the man-made developments which have sprung up over the past sixty years. "
" Now world class theme parks such as Dreamworld and Movie World, and events like IndyCar and the Magic Millions Racing Carnivals attract some two million visitors each year. ... The major shopping centres Pacific Fair and Australia Fair, plus the Surfers Strip of duty-free shops present almost everything that the honeymooner through to the retiree could want. "
" In addition there are so many tours available to all parts of southeast Queensland ... no visitor should complain that there is nothing to do. "
" That is, of course, unless you want to do nothing. Then the sand and sun (wearing a suitable sunscreen), provide the opportunity for all the leisure one could want. "

Surfers Paradise [Pages 2-3]

" Central to the image of the Gold Coast, and immediately behind Surfers Paradise Beach, Cavill Avenue reflects much that the Gold Coast offers: a relaxed lifestyle, time for a chat, a swim at the beach, or if you prefer it, night-clubbing, disco dancing, fine food and great shopping. "
Regular LSC (Life Saving Clubs) carnivals " hone the skills of club members and the popular Iron Man and Iron Woman competitions draw summer crowds and competitors from around the world." (Page2)
" Inland attractions range up to the tropical forests of Tamborine Mountain, a volcanic relic rising to 550m and providing spectacular views of the Gold Coast and the hinterland. At night the fairy lights of the coastal strip signal their magic. ... Regular headlands, such as Burleigh Heads and Currumbin Rocks punctuate the string of white sandy beaches and provide barriers to the northwards moving sand carried by the ocean during the winter months. Features [Page 5]

" Entry to the Gold Coast is usually by one of two means: either by vehicle or aeroplane. "
[vee: Now their is an added means of entry to the Gold Coast - Queensland Rail. Recently, this year, there was built the first Gold Coast rail station since 1940 or so -ages ago- so now you can come down from Brissy -Brisbane- to the Coast via train. There has always been the BUS services....]
" Aeroplane entry is at Coolangatta Airport. ... This has the distinction of spanning the NSW-QLD border: the border between the States runs across the main runway and through the main terminal building. ... For those who prefer man-made attractions Bond University, Australia’s only private university, and Jupiter’s Casino reveal contrasting styles of architecture. "

Leisure [Page 6]

" The outdoor lifestyle attracts most visitors to the Gold Coast. Even in mid winter temperatures are reasonable and casual clothes can be worn right through the year. ... Year round one can sleep with only a sheet for comfort. "
[Vee: Yes..incidents like today and yesterday prove this statement true..but not only these 2 days alone, their has been others.] " Regular events each year are many. These include IndyCar Australia in March, ... the Magic Millions Carnivals in summer and winter [horse racing], ... the Queensland Masters surfing competition (March), ... or the PGA Club Pro Champion-ship (November). "
" Sights to visit are many. Dreamworld and Seaworld, of course, are premier attractions, but a host of small and mid sized locations feature displays based upon the simplicity of nature through to the bizarre of Ripley’s Believe It or Not. ... If you would prefer a balloon flight, then take a champagne breakfast and an hour’s leisurely flight out over the Coast. "
For true leisure there is nothing like a spot of fishing, from the beach, a jetty or from the riverbank along one of the creeks near each headland - whiting, bream, tailor, flathead, and all in good sizes too. "

Shopping [Page 11]

" Two of Queensland’s largest complexes are found [on] the Gold Coast: Pacific Fair at Broadbeach, and Australia Fair at Southport. "
[Vee: of recent their has been another addition to this happy family of Robina Town Centre. It is bigger than Pacific Fair, in my opinion - Robina Town Centre isn’t worth it. It’s too big and not in the right locale. I only advise you to go to Robina Town Centre if you really have to ... other than that you can find any of the shops in close range to each other - Pac Fair, Oz fair and Southport Park.]
" Pacific Fair [known as PAC FAIR by us locals], has over 260 specialist shops within its boundaries. "
" Australia Fair [known as OZ FAIR by us locals], at Southport, is a multi-layered shopping extravaganza. It rivals Pacific Fair, with over 250 shops under the one roof, with all the major retail stores represented, as well as all the services one requires. "
[Vee: not quite..so then Oz Fair does rival Pac Fair .. it needs a TICKET TEK outlet -a place that sells concert tickets. Whilst Oz Fair doesn’t have one of there, which is quite frustrating for me sometimes, Pac Fair wins.]
" But the Surfers Strip shops, with an abundance of Duty-Free stores, and restaurants, cafes, designer boutiques, dress shops, jewellers and bookstores is unrivalled for the excitement it generates. "

Accommodation [Page 16]

" The Gold Coast boasts 300 days of sunshine per year. "
" For the visitor ... it is almost certain that a room will be available when required. Bed and breakfast lodging with it’s homely charms, or high tower living on the beachfront - all types are available and all preferences are catered for. "
" Pools and barbecue [barbies] facilities are catered for guests, in-house restaurants and nearby cafes make sure that a stay is easy going and memorable. "

Fauna Reserves [Page 19]

"South of the Coast, approaching Coolangatta, Fleay’s Wildlife Park at Burleigh West and Currumbin Sanctuary both host wonderful collections of Australian wildlife. "
" Fleay’s mixes animal displays with a sensitive approach to education about the local Kombumerri people who lived in this area in traditional times. "
At Currumbin Sanctuary "our animals can be seen in natural free-range habitats. "
