As for Sabah squash, I can't remember any of our state players ever drafted into the national team?
National U-23 Championship
SF: Beng Hee beat Michael Soo
Final: Kenneth Low bt Beng Hee 8-9, 9-7, 9-6, 9-5 in 60+ minutes despite stomach pain. Employed long rallies to slow down pace. Final set: used "flick and trick" tactics and solid placement shots.
Asian Championships 1996
Kenneth lt Faheem Khan 1-3
2nd rnd: Beng Hee lt Egyptian guy
Men's Final: Mir Zaman Gul bt Faheem Khan 3-2; Jansher didn't compete
Women's Final: Leong Siu Lynn, 14 bt Misha Grewal, 20 3-1; she's the youngest ever Asian champ. Carrie Yeo was third.
British Open 1996
This is THE arena where you show how good a squash player you are. Even making the main draw is an achievement in itself. Our top players, Kenneth, Beng Hee and Siu Lynn had to go through a pre-qualifying round before even making the qualifying rounds. And what happened? They were beaten by unknowns in world squash. We were dead meat even before reaching the main draw. One thing's for sure: Asian women's squash standards have a long long way to go.
National Closed Championship 1996
Men's SF: Kenneth bt Michael Soo 3-0
Beng Hee bt Yap Kok Four 3-2
Men's final: Kenneth bt Beng Hee 9-4, 9-4, 10-9
Women's final: Kuan Choy Lin bt Carrie Yeo 3-0
Squash World Cup 1996 (PJ)
We (seeded 15th) finished 13th out of a field of 16.
Group match:
1-2 Finland; only Beng Hee won
0-3 England; Kok Four totally outclassed by Mark Cairns (?). Chris Walker (World No.7), although won in straight sets, was given a good match by Beng Hee
Placing matches
beat Italy 3-0 and Brazil (?) 2-1.
Final: Australia 3-0 England. Brett, Michelle and Eyles too good for Chaloner, Horner and Walker.
