The Language
Home Up The Language Where the Heck Am I Daily Routine

In Brazil they speak Portuguese.  In fact they are the only coutry in the Americas that has Portuguese as their only official language.  This is a language that I'm still learning every day.  I have some experience with languages, I speak French fluently and German was my first language (although I don't speak German that well anymore).  Here are some thoughts on the language.

Portuguese Dyslexic?

At times I think the Portuguese were founded by a dyslexic band of Spanish people, see for yourself.

Push and Pull

In French push is "pousser" (poosay) and pull is "tirer" (teeray).

But in Portuguese push is "pular" and pull is "puxar" (pushar).  It's funny watching a Canadian try to pull on a door that's written "Pular".

Before and After

In Portuguese after is "depois" (daypoise), but in French since means "depuis" (daypui).

Rock and Hockey

Rock and Roll in Portuguese sounds like "Hockey an Hole" (I'm not kidding).

But if you're watching hockey on TV it's "Rocky" you're watching.
