Something for everyone
The legend says, "After God created Scandinavia he was left with a little of all the beautiful features that now typify the North. He collected them together, threw them out into the Baltic Sea and thereby created Bornholm". Almost every type of landscape that appears in Scandinavia can also be found on this small island. Therefore it is called "the north in a nut-shell". But it is necessary to say that Bornholm has its own unique attributes impossible to find anywhere else in this region. That is why this place is so attractive and worth visiting in every season and for everyone - those looking for peace and quiet and those seeking challenge. In other words - Bornholm is a great place for both leisure and active tourism. Lately, especially the latter kind has become very popular and fashionable. Bornholm is prepared for that. It offers its guests bowling and fitness centres, tennis courts, golf courses, hiking paths, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and of course biking routes.
Since the beginning of the 80's a network of bicycle routes has been developed on the island, following former railway beds and rescue paths, forest and side roads as well as along highways, where cyclists have their own, separate lanes. The routes go round and across the Bornholm through the most picturesque areas. They lead to every sight of interest and visit all larger towns. The distances are so short that everyone can easily and - what is very important - safely ride them. Bornholm authorities attach great importance to the safety on the road and cyclists are in their special graces. They have right of way over other users of the road. The total length of the biking paths amounts to more than 200 kilometres and is still increasing. All the things mentioned above make the island one of the most biker-friendly regions in Europe.
