Tap water in Thailand contains a high level of Chlorine.

Shortage of water happens during summer around the month of April. There have been some instances of water rationing.

There are two types of bottled water in Thailand. PET (clear plastic) bottles, and PE, or polyethylene, (translucent) bottles. The former is considered to be of a higher quality as it is processed using sophisticated technology, while the latter is produced in a small-scale, family-run factory.

A 500 ml bottle of PET water retails for 6 baht, a 750 ml bottle costs 8 baht, and 1.5 litre bottle cost 12 baht.

PE bottles are cheaper and are popular with people on a budget.

A wide selection of sophisticated and imported water filters are widely available thoughout Thailand.

According to the director of the water quality control division of the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, the following districts' tap water are hygienic and suitable for drinking :

North Star with the brand name Polaris delivers bottled water to residents on a regular basis. A deposit of 300 baht is required for each bottle.
