------------"24 Deep" is the first national and Black Market Records release for Brotha Lynch Hung and helped establish the then-unknown rapper into what he is now. Only an EP, there are only 9 tracks, and six songs in all. There is only one guest appearance, so for the most part all you are going to hear is Brotha Lynch. Basically being a prelude to his next release, "Season of the Siccness", "24 Deep" is a well-rounded effort, with great flows and decent beats, but there is nothing here that will blow you away.
___The cd starts off with your basic intro, with Brotha Lynch Hung just giving some shout outs to all his friends. “24 Deep” is the first song and is a good one at that, with the trademark Brotha Lynch Hung flow when he first started out and a solid beat. Brotha Lynch Hung gives the listener the insight as to what his life is like on a daily basis in the Garden Block on this track, complete with smoking, drinking, and violence. The best track of the cd is “Had 2 Gat Ya”, as Brotha Lynch really tears it up with his lyrics and flow on this one. “The Next Hoe” is a introduction to the next song “Lose A Hoe, Gain A Hoe”. Clocking in at almost 7 minutes this song gets boring quick and is the only bad track on the whole cd. Dealing with hoes and the pimp game, this track is not your standard Brotha Lynch Hung track. But being such a long track, and having a bad beat, there is no redeeming value to this song. But the next song brings the cd back up to pace, as “Back Fade” is another tight track with above average beats and lyrics. “Jackin’ 4 Joints” is a decent song, sporting a beat that can be classified as old school. A little under 2 minutes, this is a quick song which is good since it isn’t that great and is the second least favorite song on the cd. The last song of the cd also happens to be the only radio oriented track, which is something you wouldn’t expect from Brotha Lynch Hung. Complete with clean lyrics and signing, “Walkin’ 2 My Funeral” is something different from the rest of the cd. But its a good track, with a smooth beat and still has some hard lyrics even if they are clean. It may also be noted that this is the only track with a guest appearance, but I have no clue who is the second guy rapping on the song. But both rappers do a good job and this turns out be a solid song even with its intentions. “Fundamentals Of Ripgut Cannibalism” is the outro and is just Brotha Lynch Hung talking to the devil. Once again, just another skit and once you have heard it, there is no point to ever listen to it again.
___As an EP, this is a pretty good cd. With only one horrible song (“Lose A Hoe,
Gain A Hoe”) and a few really good ones (“24 Deep”, “Had 2 Gat Ya”, and “Back Fade”) this stands as a good first release for Brotha Lynch Hung. Not only does he have a great flow, but he also produced all the tracks and shows that he can also do it behind the boards also. The only downside is that there are only 6 songs, and three boring skits. If the skits were replaced with songs this could have been right up there with “Season of the Siccness”. But like I said, this seems more of a introduction to the “Season of the Siccness” and even eludes to it in the inside cover. On a side note, the cover also wants the listener to believe that Brotha Lynch is dead as it gives a brief overview of his life and even mentions that day he was killed (which is all false, of course). Fans of Brotha Lynch Hung should have this cd, and if they don’t already, there is no reason not to pick it up as this is his second best solo cd, only following that of his classic “Season of the Siccness”.
