------------The cd Planet Zero by First Degree the D.E. is one filled with an interesting array of styles and beats. He comes from Sac-Town and is down with the Siccmade Family, Brotha Lynch Hung being on a few tracks on this cd. The D.E.'s voice is unlike anyone else's that we have reviewed on here on Boomin so far. The cd has 15 songs with one intro and one weird ass instrumental. The core of the best songs is located toward the beginning and is pretty listenable up to about the 10th song.
___The beats are not bad and compliment the lyrics and the sound of D.E.'s voice very well on some tracks. Like I said, his style is very strange, but he has a way of manipulating his voice in a way that he flows very well even when his lyrics don't really rhyme. Sometimes he makes the lyrics intentionally not rhyme and this shows that he doesn't need them to flow accurately. Even the intro is pretty good as he demonstrates for first times listeners his style and use of mumbles and moans to make some songs even better. Some tight songs on this cd are "Outer Limits", "Blackula", and "Oh Me, Oh My", arguably the best song off this cd. Actually, there is a somewhat hidden track, which follows the song "Gun Fu" after a considerable amount of silence. The subject matter in the songs varies throughout the cd, but mostly it is about the D.E.'s life, women, and his quest to "Planet Zero". Where this is, no one could tell (except First Degree) but the lyrical journey to this place is great.
___With nice beats and a unique flow, First Degree put out a nice cd with "Planet Zero". And with cameos from Brotha Lynch Hung, this cd is one that should be picked up if you see it, although it might be a little hard to find, except on the West Coast, probably. At any rate, this cd is very recommendable for anyone who is looking for something a little different.
