Racing usually enhances a cruiser's sailing experience and ocean racing is one of the few medium in which to test one's skills and courage.

• Mini Class US
  The Mini Class US is the governing body of 6.5 meter (Mini Boat) sailing in the United States. Its Mission - To develop and promote offshore racing in the US for one of the world's most exciting sailing vessels.
  
• Atlantic Rowing Challenge
  Phil Carrington and Jason McKinlay have completed rowing their 7.1 meters boat from Canary Islands to Barbados, over 3000 nautical miles in this very challeging and tough race.
  
• EDS Atlantic Challenge

• Transat 2000
  The famous Trans Atlantic Race from Quebec, Canada to St. Malo, France featuring many large French mono and multihulls.
  
• Route du Rhum
  Ran every four even years since 1978 this 3600 nautical miles solo ocean race which starts from Saint-Malo and finish at Pointe-�-Pitre is a magical ocean sailing race of total freedom.
  
• Sidney to Horbart Race
  Considered by many to be one of the toughest yacht race in the world.
  
• Kins Cup Regatta
  This is one of Asia's most popular yacht race held each year in December around the Island of Phuket, South Thailand in honor of His Majesty the King of Thailand.
  
• The Raja Muda International Regatta
  The Raja Muda International Regatta evolved from the Malaysian Offshore Series which begun in 1985 and run to encourage yachting and in particular racing in the area. Today the Raja Muda International Regatta is a world-renowned annual event attracting many entrants from the world over. Its distinctive feature is its night passage events and the triangles in the harbours, offering seven days of active racing, cruising and great parties onshore, with ample breaks to enable participants to sightsee and savour some of the charms and sights of Malaysia.
  
• Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race
  The Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race is an annual event (first sailed in 1976) which has contributed greatly to the development of strong cultural and sporting ties between Australia and Indonesia. For most participants, the race is the first stage of a leisurely cruise through the beautiful Indonesian Archipelago. The Indonesian government makes available a three month cruising permit to all participating yachts.
  
• The Vendee Globe Race
  The VendZe Globe was created to meet the needs of sailors who wish to push themselves to the limit. It is both a sporting, technical and human adventure and an international competition that unites single-handed yachtsmen from all over the world who wish to test themselves in a non-stop round the world race. This event will be the longest and most difficult ever devised under competition circumstances. In French and English.
  
• The Figaro Race
  Offshore Challenges: The Home of Single Handed Sailing. Featuring The famous Figaro Race. This is a solo race, by legs of 300 nautical miles, on boats of the same speed and capacity, ranked in real time.Conceived in1970 by two employees of the Aurore newspaper they were unaware that thirty years later this race would become the almost obligatory passage for ambitious racers, a sort of Ocean training ground. This real "School of Winners" attracted nearly all those who for twenty years had distinguished themselves on the oceans.
  
• Around Alone Race
  Follow the competitors as they sail solo around the world in this classic race. Fomerly known as The BOC Race. Great multimedia site with sound and video too.
  
• Mini-Transat Race
  My favourite small boat ocean race. Englishman Bob Salmon founded this race (from Plymouth, UK to Antigua) in 1977 and it is still going strong today. The great thing about the Mini Transat is that it gave many sailing enthusiasts the chance to tackle the ocean and launched future ocean racing champions, including the Peyron and Bourgnon brothers, Isabelle Autissier, Yves Parlier and Jean Luc Van Den Heede. The Mini rules are designed to encourage offshore racing on small (6.5 meters or 21'-4"), moderately-priced monohull raceboats (now there is a new expensive prototype class) with short-handed crews.

• Jonathan McKee's 2003 MiniTransat Race
  Olympic Gold-Medalist sailor from Seattle Jonathan McKee competed in this legendary ocean race: one man, 21 feet of boat, and the Atlantic Ocean.

  The only American so far to race in the 2001 Mini-Transat Race and hoping to do it again in the 2006 Around Alone.

• BT Challenge HomePage.
  Described as the world's toughest yacht race! Fourteen identical 67ft steel cutter-rigged sloops departed Southampton UK, on Sunday 29 September 1996 By the time they arrived back in the UK nearly 10 months later, they'll have sailed 30,000 miles the 'wrong way' around the world (against prevailing winds and currents)! Their route will have taken in Rio de Janeiro, Wellington, Sydney, Cape Town and Boston. 'Gentlemen' who does not sail to weather need not apply.

  The premiere West Coast solo sailing/racing society. Interesting and inspiring for those who sail/race singlehanded on large or small. Organized the first Solo TransPac to Hawaii from SF and local solo/doublehanded ocean races.

  Sponsored many San Francisco Bay Area multihull races. Some interesting Farallon race stories.
