Sacramento, California

I had business in Sacramento June 23-25, 1999. I consumed a very notable meal at the Peppermill Coffee Shop and Lounge, 1500 Arden Way [phone: (916)929-4014]. Owned by the Peppermill Casino folks, the menu offered many delights not found at most coffee shops. The decision was difficult but I finally decided on the Crab Stuffed Shrimp Monterey, and I savored every delicious bite. It has six large butterflied shrimp stuffed with crab, scallions and Monterey Jack cheese. They are broiled, then basted with garlic butter, and served with special rice, sauteed vegetables and toasted garlic bread. I had a baked potato instead of the rice. There is also a choice of soup or salad, and I had the white clam chowder which was delicious. The chef did a tremendous job with the presentation of the meal, patiently placing the shrimp in a semi-circle and spacing each with a lemon slice and parsley. There was a generous serving of a wide variety of fresh vegetables. Check out the deserts; there are some real mouth-watering treats.
