Centreville

The centre of Digby Neck. Centreville is halfway between Digby and Petite Passage. A friendly place to visit and beautiful place to see sunsets and the magnificent coastline of the Bay of Fundy shore and as you explore the coastline you may luck upon hidden treasure they say was buried here. As you drive through Centreville on Trout Cove Rd., you can see the first brick house built on Digby Neck by hand.

The primary industry in Centreville is handline fishing and lobster fishing and you can see the boats used for this or chat with the fishermen at the wharf in Centerville.

History:

An early name was Trout Cove but was changed in 1875 to Centreville.
Captain Isaac Titus form New York State settled here in 1788.
One of Centreville's main attractions The Brick House was built by James Ward in 1789.

United Church was built 1886, burned in 1994, and is being restored this year (1996). A part of this church that was lost was a stained glass window dedicated to Elva Elnora Henderson (Morehouse) and now there is only a painting of this window.

First Baptist Church on Digby Neck is located in Centreville.

A fish processing and canning industry began in the late 1880's by Alfred Boutilier.
