Employment History

Present : AINCO-Interocean, Madrid, Spain

Employed on the European CANIGO and EUROFLOAT projects. Involves working mainly with neutrally buoyant float data, from launching to post processing and analysis. I work closely with other European institutes and have currently written two articles with these partners. My contract finishes in June 1999.

1996 University of East Anglia, Norwich

Employed by the university to write papers from my thesis.

1990 - 1991 Chantrey Vellacott Chartered Accountants, London

Trainee Accountant, duties included assisting managers on various assignments and dealing with client problems. Left in 1991 to return to full time education.

Interests

17th century European history. I am currently writing a novel set during this time period. Ballroom and Latin Dancing (member of UEA Dance team), Fencing (member of the UEA Sabre team), Weight and Fitness training, Swimming, Drawing, Kung Fu (President of the Wing Chun Kung Fu Club in Newcastle), Squash and Badminton (member of Newcastle University Badminton Team). I have also been the treasurer of the Viking and Dark Ages Banqueting Society!

Relevant Experience

I have taken part in two two week cruises in the North Atlantic (1996 and 1997) as part of the Eurofloat and CANIGO projects on board the D'Entrecasteaux and Thalassa deploying MARVOR and RAFOS floats. I was on two six week cruises (ADOX I and II) in the Southern Ocean (1993 and 1994) on the R.R.S. Discovery, where I was involved in the collection and associated processing of ADCP, CTD, XBT, TSG and Bottle data, and a single eight day cruise (JONUS) in the North Sea (1994) assisting with the collection of CTD and bottle data.

In 1994 I attended the Cambridge summer school in Fluid Dynamics and in 1997 the TOA workshop on the interpretation of float data, in Brest, France. I am hoping to participate in the European Commission MAST advanced study course "Multiscale Coastal Dynamics: Fluxes and predictions for the physical component". I have also acted as a reviewer for both English and Spanish language journals.

I am familiar with various computing environments (VAX, UNIX and PC's) all of which are used in my work. I have programming experience with MATLAB, PASCAL, FOTRAN and BASIC. I set up and now maintain AINCO´s as well as my own Web sites. I have demonstrated several classes in Oceanography and Mathematics, including lengthy field courses. I have a higher-intermediate level of Spanish.
