Things to keep an eye out for - Caution

While traveling in Honduras, please be careful... especially if you're driving. Try to remember that you're in a different culture with different rules. The general rule of the road is: Bigger vehicles and Braver (crazier) drivers rule the road. When you see them coming, get out of their way.

I was fortunate to have lived in Honduras for just about 2 years, without experiencing any major accident. In fact, only 1 minor fender-bender, when a Toyota Corolla tried to drive under my Ford F-250 4x4 in a parking lot...

While on the roadway, watch for:

Make sure your vehicle is well maintained. Always make room for Antifreeze, Motor oil, Transmission oil, Spare tire(s), Tools, etc. There is no Roadside Service in Honduras. If your vehicle breaks down, it will be up to you to get it off the roadway and repaired!!! Telephones are not widely available, so you may have a long walk to find help.
