Thanx for checking out my Sri Lanka page. Here, those of u who
know me will hopefully understand why I adore the place! *smile*
Let me start by telling u where this gorgeous isle is.....well,
it's a tiny island found in the Indian Ocean, just south of India.
It has a population of about 18 million or so... pretty large for
the little teardrop.
Ok...let's talk about me.. *smile* I'm from the capital city,
Colombo and lived there till I was 13 years old. I've also been
back thrice since then.... 90/91, 92/93 and 97/98....
I love going back for lotza reasons.... like keeping
in touch with family and friends, and I always feel a sense of
belonging there. I absolutely love the casual lifestyle in Sri
Lanka.... as people always seem to have time for others and their
lives aren't controlled by set routines...they're very flexible
and are always looking for a good time! : )
Sri Lanka is a country rich in culture and diversity....the
most dominant ethnic group is Sinhalese(74%), followed by Tamil(18%),
Muslim(6%) and other less dominant ones. Similarly, Sri Lankans
are generally pretty religious too - with Buddhism, Christianity,
Islamism etc. You might wonder which part of this population I'm
a part of..well I'm a Sinhalese Christian.
Thousands of tourists visit the country every year as it has much
to offer in terms of recreation... What I love best about the
country I guess would be the beautiful golden beaches and the
greenest hill country!! It's breath-taking!! *smile* Just have a
look at some of the pics below and you'll have an idea about what
I'm talking about......
Unfortunately, I haven't been all around Sri Lanka but plan to
do so sometime!! Travelling around some parts of the country is a
bit difficult due to the current unrest, especially the north and
east, which is a big time bummer!! : ( ...but shit happens!!! For those of you interested on reading up on the conflict, here's a terrific site.... do check it out...
One of my favourite places to visit is Nuwara Eliya, where u get the lushest green mountains. Oh and I forgot to mention the stunning waterfalls found here!! The weather over here is perfect too as it's rather cool, though not cold!! : ) The other favourite has to be Galle with it's gorgeous beaches!! The drive down there is unreal as the main road goes right along the beach down from Colombo to Galle!! So that way u get to stop at any beach that takes your fancy....or just duck in for a swim if you're feeling hot!! *grin* I have heaps of wonderful memories of this.....hanging around with friends just enjoying the beauty around and excellent fun company !!hmmm... all is making me wanna get the next flight over there !! *smile*
I've written this much with no mention of cricket yet... hmmm... now that's a first!! *grin* Well...lemme just say that we (SL) kick butt BIG TIME when it comes to cricket!! ....with being reigning WORLD CHAMPIONS and all !! : ) I'll get some cricket pics so those of u who are interested can have a look at the how the world's best sport is played by the very best !! : )
For you folk who haven't been to paradise....it's a definite must!! Well it's highly recommended by yours truly...!! *smile* Hope u like the pics that I have here.....
