A Peek Inside the Wall City

The Wall City of Manila or Intramuros. From within Intramuros' confines still stand today structures that exude the glory that was Spain. San Agustin Church, in all its 17th century Baroque grandeur, has remained practically untouched and is now a repository of rare ecclesiastical treasures. Historic Fort Santiago, the site of torture chambers and dungeon where political prisoners from Spanish to Japanese times were kept and executed, is a well-maintained park lushed with tropical flora and homing pigeons. It also houses a museum that keeps Rizal memorabilia, galleries, an open-air theater, restaurants and souvenir shops.
