The Great Movie Ride
Housed in a replica of Mann's Chinese Theatre, The Great Movie Ride is The Disney-MGM Studios defining ride. It takes guests on a 22-minute journey through scenes from some of history's most famous movies. Scenes from "Singing in the Rain", "Mary Poppins", "Alien", "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "Casablanca", "The Wizard of Oz", and others are portrayed using amazingly lifelike Audio-Animatronics. Homage is also payed to such famous genres as gangster flicks, adventure films, westerns, and even Busby Berkely films! The most surprising part of the ride occurs about halfway through when the large ride vehicles roll to a stop and a scene typical of a western or ganster movie is played using real actors, during which there is a shootout and the ride vehicle is hijacked! But don't worry, the hijacker gets what he deserves very soon! To end the ride, a film is shown of clips from practically every famous film and genre known to man.
Interesting and little known facts
-the Audio-Animatronic of Gene kelly in the Singing in the Rain scene was inspected by Gene Kelly himself before it was shipped to Florida!
-the Audio-Animatronic of the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz scene is one of the most complicated Audio-Animatronic in all of Walt Disney World!
