Beautifully themed to the famed french quarter of New Orleans, Disney's Port Orleans Resort transports guests to the land of Jazz, Mardi Gras, and endless wrought-iron! A large, airy building called the Mint, which, not surprisingly, is based on an old turn-of-the-century mint, serves as the entrance to the resort, and instantly immerses guests in the welcoming atmosphere of the South. The check-in, a food court, and most other facilities are located here. Beyond the Mint lies the heart of the resort, a series of three story buildings situated along several small criss-crossing tree-lined roadways (with humorous faux-french names like "Rue de Baga"). These pretty, wrought-iron adorned buildings contain all the rooms, where interior decorating continues the New Orleans theme. Swimming is the main recreation at this resort. Doubloon Lagoon is the name of the large pool which features a giant sea serpent snaking in and out of the ground, around and in the pool, ending at its tongue which serves as a water slide! Other recreational activities include a video arcade, a nice playground for kids, and shopping. Jackson Square Gifts & Sundries is the resort's only shop; it sells Port Orleans merchandise, sundries, and Disney character merchandise. For food, there is the Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory, a food court serving burgers, pizza, baked goods, ice cream, and traditional Creole dishes. There's also two bars: Mardi Grogs and Scat Cat's Club; they serve specialty drinks and snacks, along with nightly entertainment at Scat Cat's Club.
