Without a palm tree in sight, Disney's Wilderness Lodge takes guests to the serene and natural American Northwest. Surrounded by beautiful pine trees, this resort is modeled after the National Park Services lodges built at the turn of the century. The resort's main building material, wood, is prominently displayed in an awe-inspiring eight-story lobby. This majestic log-stuructured enclosure features two 55-foot tall Totem poles, an amazing 82-foot tall stone fireplace, and 4 large rustic chandeliers. The 728 guestrooms also carry on the Northwestern theme and contain two-queen size beds, a balcony, a table, chairs, and a separate vanity area. Some rooms have a queen-size bed and a bunk bed, which is ideal if your travelling with children. Recreation at Disney's Wilderness Lodge includes an assortment of rental boats and bicycles, a swimming area, an arcade, and a playground for kids. The pool actually starts in the lobby as a hot spring, which flows outside, down a creek, over a waterfall and into the swimming area, which includes a beach, a kiddie pool, two whirlpools, and even a geyser! The geyser is called Fire Rock and erupts every hour on the hour. For food, there is the Artist Point, Whispering Canyon Café, Lobby Cofee Bar, the Roaring Fork, Territory, and Trout Pass. They serve steak, seafood, wild game, snacks, drinks, etc. The only shop is Wilderness Lodge Mercantile; it sells clothes, sundries, Disney character merchandise, etc.
