Bermuda Onion

PLEASE NOTE: This was my first effort at creating a website, back in the mid 90's. And, I hardly ever check my Guest Book, even though I should! So, if you'd like to contact me after visiting this site, please do so by email. Feel free to place an entry in the Guest Book, if you wish. Welcome to my home page. It has been quite awhile since I last updated it, but I'm hoping to get the time to change a few things, when I find the elusive "round tuit!"

They call us Bermudian's "Onions" I guess because onions were exported from here in the days before we exported tourists..... after they leave some of their money with us, of course! Bermuda is actually a very beautiful island to visit and, if you haven't had the opportunity to see the pink sand and experience our clear blue waters, you really should plan to do so.

You'll notice I haven't included many pictures on this page as yet, but you can check out some of the scenery and learn a bit more about us at my Bermuda Shorts web site. Also there, you'll see links to the various web sites I've created, over the years.

The other thing I've been doing for over 30 years is playing music. I'm the lead singer and drummer/keyboard player for my band, The Travellers. We don't play as often as in past years, but still enjoy it when we do.

What do I do in my spare time, you might ask. Well, I took up golf a few years ago, and try to play once a week, if I can. Golf is a strange game for us "weekend golfers." One week, I can shoot in the 80's, then the next week, the score climbs up to the high 90's... or worse! The one constant, however, is that I always have fun - it's easy to find something to laugh at, the way I play!!

Another hobby I have been involved in for well over 30 years is ham radio. It gives me the opportunity to meet people from all around the world. I've made lots of friends through ham radio and spoken with some very interesting people. My call sign is VP9ID and I can be found every Sunday morning on 14.275 MHz at 9:00 a.m., eastern standard time.

Please take a few moments to visit a site set up for my little friend, Carrie, who suffered from Fanconi Anemia. She underwent bone marrow transplant treatments and was a true example of courage and determination. Her parents, Jeff and Beth, kept a daily account of Carrie's "adventure" from the time of the operation, and shared it with others, here on the Internet. Sadly, my friend, Carrie, passed away April 27, 1999, after a long and brave fight. I miss her very much, but feel truly blessed to have known her. I attended school on the Air Force Base, here in Bermuda, and graduated back in 19...... never you mind!! Anyway, another graduate found my Bermuda Souvenir Map web site and asked for some maps for the 1998 reunion. Little did she know her request would be to a fellow graduate of the same high school she had attended when her family was stationed on the island back when. So, I was able to find out about a web site set up for Kindley High School Alumni, and discovered email addresses for some of the kids that graduated with me. It's been really great to establish contact with some of my former schoolmates again.

It looks really nice (even without my car in the picture!) these days. The addition, on the far right, is a gymnasium, which we "old timers" never got a chance to enjoy. Coach made us do all our "burpees" out in the damp weather! A few years ago, several of us got together for one last visit at the old place before it was turned over to the Bermuda Government. It was very nostalgic to walk through the halls of the school and see the changes which had been made. We had lots of good times back then. A group of former students took a cruise to the island in July of 2002. Check out this site to read about their visit and see lots of pictures.
