Freezing at dawn, we arrived right into the pulsing heart of Peking. Bicycles flow silently beneath the silent gaze of chairman Mao, like shoals of fish; an intense volume shifting effortlessly, through an even greater mass. It was not our intention to spend Christmas on the Great Wall, but I needed a new passport after everything was stolen in Guangzhou.
