Ian's Travelling Equipment Review

This page is a list of stuff we have and comments. Most importantly an excellent plug for Kev & Pearl at Snow Sun / Active Outdoor and a big THANK YOU to them too. The kit :

Fleece :

Phoenix - Gore WS - V. warm + windproof - perfect thanks to Active Outdoor - Nacton Rd Ips.

Knife :

SWISS ARMY - WORK CHAMP - new model - first in country (UK) thanks to Pearl & Kev of A. Outdoor.

Tent :

VANGO - HYDRA - from Cotswold in London. It's CRAP. You get wet if it rains and wet if it don't. Thanks to a dip in the roof the rain builds up and comes in and when it's hot and dry the condensation builds up at the same point and drips through!

Sleeping bag :

Vango - Ultralight 900M also crap (can we see a pattern yet?) holds moisture when you sweat so the next night you've got a nice COOL, WET sleeping bag. Especially usefull on Mt. Kenya with snow and ice outside. I COULD HAVE BLOODY DIED...

Mag Light :

Small and black - AAA cell version, no problems except a blown bulb after about 3 months! thanks again to A. Outdoor and thanks too for the spare bulbs! [Might try the AA version next time]

Rucksack :

LOWE ALPINE, ALPERMAYO. 70+15 litre. Really cool I thought untill I stored it and travelled without it... better to carry nowt than loads comfortably!
