Camping during Peter's Break
Unplanned Happening (continued): In our last letter I told you about how I broke my leg and that I was in bed with a cast on my leg. It's been a bit over three months since then and I'm writing this at the end of June... the accident happened March 16th. The doctor who did the surgery was quite cautious after taking the cast off, exactly two months from the day it broke. He told me not to put weight on it until the beginning of July, my next appointment with him. However, this seemed a very long time and I decided to see another doctor and get a second opinion. When the second opinion differed from my surgeon, I decided to look for a third opinion. The third opinion I got when we went to be with Peter for his four day school break in Kenya. There is a large hospital next to the boarding school where an American missionary bone surgeon has a practice. He told me it is a mistake not to start bearing weight on the leg, as the weight actually advances the healing process. "Let the pain tell you when to stop, and work toward walking," he told me. Those were like words from heaven! Within a week I was starting to walk and now (as I type this letter) I'm no longer using any crutches and I'm working toward eliminating a limp. How I thank the Lord to be able to walk again! I don't think I'll ever take for granted the blessings of using two legs instead of one! I'm wondering what my original doctor will say when he sees me in a few weeks.

Rhonda's graduation day at Bethel College
Rhonda's Open House and Wedding Date Change: When we wrote last time I also told you about our plans to travel to the States for Rhonda's graduation and to meet our future son-in-law. That trip went well in all aspects! It was wonderful to be with Rhonda and meet Scott and attend all the events of graduation, which included the open house for Rhonda. We had over 80 friends attend! It was wonderful! What a blessing! In all of this we would like to thank my brother, Joel, and his wife, Barb, for opening their home to us and actually doing much of the work for the event. Of course, I wasn't much help to anyone, as I hobbled around on crutches enjoying the fellowship... oh yes, I did make some mints – which I could do sitting down. Thanks to all of you who came and celebrated God's wonderful blessings with us. How we praise Him!

Somewhere in all of this, Rhonda and Scott decided to change their wedding date to August 9th. The Christmas season just didn't seem like a good time for people to come, plus a number of other good reasons which we gave our full approval of. There was only one problem standing in the way and that was, how would we be able to refund our December airline tickets and purchase new ones? However, the Lord worked that one out wonderfully. There was an equivalent of about a US $100 fee for canceling the tickets, so we stood to loose $300. But just as we were turning them in, the exchange rate reversed, causing a refund of almost exactly the same as the purchase price! Plus, the new tickets which Scott found on the internet for us, were about $300 per ticket cheaper than the originals! Isn't God good? Our present plan is to meet Peter in Jo'burg on July 12, when he travels from Kenya at the start of his school break. The next day we will begin our journey to the States to prepare for the wedding which will be held on August 9th. We will then return to Swaziland on August 15th. During this time we will help Rhonda and Scott set up their new apartment in Bloomington, Indiana where Scott will be beginning his studies for his master's degree in math and physics. Exciting days ahead! Oh, yes, if that isn't enough... Peter will be getting his learners driving license. Pray for us!
