Susie and Sean's 1998 Travel Page!

1998:

Jan 23-27: Surprise, surprise, we are going to Paris for a long weekend!!! For some reason the airlines are running ridiculously low prices now and I am going to be transitioning to IBM February 1 so I had some vacation days to use so here we go! We are staying at the Hotel la Bourdonnais very near the Eiffel Tower. We also found an Aikido seminar that is taking place there on the weekend and I wrote the dojo and they said "come on down!" so we plan to go train there and Ginny, the wife of the Sensei is orginally from Indiana! Small world... The dojo is the Association Culturelle Nationale d'Aikido and the Sensei is Michel Becart. We also plan to visit wonderfully weird place called the Musee' Grevin which is very hard to describe, but we loved it the last time and are going back. We also hope to hit the Catacombs and Sewers (actually very interesting) and the usual haunts, Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Notre Dame (and the crypts of Notre Dame), Sainte Chapelle, etc. etc. WAY too much to do in one long weekend! We'll just have to go back.

NOTE: We are back! We had a great time! We didn't get to see any of the sights (we were too busy walking around and enjoying ourselves) but we did get to Seminar by Becart Sensei on Sunday. I plan to write it up, but basically we had a great time at the seminar and everyone was very nice and good to train with and Becart Sensei was a joy. We MUST go back!

April 6-23: We went on the Marco Polo on the Orient Cruise Lines on a cruise from Singapore to Bombay and then overland to Delhi and Agra to see the Taj Mahal, etc. We were really looking forward to the trip! Click here for the itinerary.

May, 1998:

Sean went to a Networking Conference in Monterey, California and stayed over a few extra days. He got to visit with his brother the last weekend they were there. They went to the Aquarium and rented bicycles and rode all around the coast. Sean also got to go surfing which made him very happy. It looks like we are going to have to go back to Hawaii next year. He needs a good surfing "fix".

Labor Day Weekend, 1998:

We got bored and decided to head to Las Vegas!  We stayed at the Imperial Palace hotel.  This is a great location and great bargain.  It is one of the cheapest hotels on the strip and is right across from Caesar's Palace, mid-strip, directly on the strip.  They are running rates of $20 a night for M-Sat thru the winter.  Our's wasn't quite that cheap, but at $69 for Friday and Saturday and $39 for Sun-Tues, it was great!  I highly recommend staying here.  We traipsed all over Las Vegas, gambling at all the nickel slots and poker machines.  Well, we aren't big gamblers, but we had fun and discovered that you can get free drinks at the nickel slots so it was a good deal and lots of fun.  And Sean climbed the climbing wall (actually more of a really tall rock) at the mall with the M&M store near the MGM Grand which he really enjoyed.  We didn't make any shows this time, but hope to go back and see Imagine at the Luxor and Forever Plaid.  We did see the Star Trek exhibit at the Las Vegas Hilton though.  What a great ride and special effects!! A little over-priced though, at $14.95.

October 17-24, 1998:

SEALETTER/CRUISE BASH REUNION CRUISE!

Holland America Line WESTERDAM Oct 17, 1998 - 7 Night Eastern Caribbean from Ft. Lauderdale to Half Moon Cay, San Juan, St. Thomas & Nassau
Here's where we are going.  It will be a blast!!!

Well, we are back and had a great time.  Mom went with us and I'm working on writing up a review of this.  I should have done it sooner, but we are always busy planning the next trip!

Oct 25-Nov 2, 1998:

And one day after we get back, Sean is off to Hawaii to hang with his brother, Nat!  They are spending half the time on Oahu and half the time on Maui.  The only thing sorry I will miss by not going is the food.  Eggplant and Chicken Teriyaki on rice with 4 vegetables from the International Food Market is to die for.  Oh well, next time!

And Sean had a great time!  He got to visit with his brothers and sister on Maui too which he really enjoyed, especially since he doesn't get to see them much.
