The state of Andhra Pradesh is surrounded by Maharastra, Orissa and Chhattisgarh in the North, Tamil
Nadu in the South, Maharastra & Karnataka in the West and the Bay Of Bengal at the East. The state is
recognized variously for its legendary dynasties, for its most revered temple, Tirupati, for its handicrafts
and beautiful weaves, rich literature and the famous dance Kuchipudi. Andhra Pradesh has often been
called the food bowl of the south.
The Godavari and Krishna rivers cut through the state, forming large deltas before joining the Bay of
Bengal. The Tungabhadra, an important tributary of the Krishna, is yet another important river of the
state. The state can be divided into three important regions, 1) the coastal region, comprising of nine
districts, generally called Andhra; 2) the interior region, consisting of four districts collectively
known as Rayalaseema, and 3)the Telengana region, consisting of the capital Hyderabad and nine adjoining
districts.
Today, Andhra Pradesh is known as the Cyber State of India. Computers and the Internet have percolated in
even the remotest villages of the state and hence become the main center of attraction of many multi national
companies.
The handicrafts of Andhra Pradesh flourishes around the temples, courts, villages and tribal communities.
Bidri, a metal craft of Andhra Pradesh uses zinc oxide and silver as basic material. Nirmal is famous art
to prepare decorative, beautifully painted wooden articles like furnitures, bowls, lamps, ash trays, boxes
etc. Himroo is a distinctive, luxurious fabric, once used as dress materials. The colorful leather puppets,
are also famous in Andhra Pradesh. The art of creating jeweleries has been perfected by the artisans of
Hyderabad. Hyderabad today, is the largest pearl center of India. It also has an age-old tradition of
hand-woven fabrics, silk and cotton saris.
Kuchipudi is the famous dance of Andhra. It is also rich in several traditional folk dances like
Banjara, Gobbi, Bathakamma, Mathuri, Dhamal, Dandaria, Dappu, Vadhyam etc.
