The 'Land of the Dawnlit Mountains', Itanagar is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a very old city
established in the 14th - 15th century AD.
1. Itanagar: The major attractions of Itanagar include the Itafort, Buddhist monastery,
Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Museum, the Ganga lake and the Zoo. The sacred Buddhist
monastery has a beautiful yellow roof reflects the Tibetan architecture style and
provides good views of the whole town. A vast collection of wood carvings, musical instruments,
textiles, handicrafts and archeological findings are available in Jawaharlal Nehru State
Museum. The Handicrafts Centre has a variety of traditional cane
manufactures.
The Gyaker Sinyi (Ganga Sekhi Lake) is a beautiful picnic spot, 6 kms away from Itanagar.
The magnificent lake is surrounded by deep green forests. The serenity is broken only by the
chirping birds.
2. Ziro: Ziro is a small but a beautiful tourist destination. The beautiful landscapes and
the greenery makes the spot charming.The trees are mainly pine and bamboo groves. The nearest
craft centre is a must seen. A Fish Farm is located here at a great height. Ziro can also be
cosidered as a trekkers' paradise.
3. Bhalukpong: Headquarters of the Bhalukpong circle, Bhalukpong (Assam) is ideal for rafting and
angling on the river Kameng. The visit will be worthful at the time of the Nyethidow festival
in March. Three kilometers from Bhalukpong is the famous Tipi Orchid Centre.
4. Bomdila: The headquarters of the West Kameng District, Bomdila is located on a hilltop
(~8500 ft above mean sea level), Apart from majestic views of several snow capped peaks of the
Himalayan range, the breathtaking view of the Kameng Valley also make the tourists spell bound.
It contains many apple orchards and Buddhist monasteries known as 'Gumphas'. Trekkers'
paradise Bomdila also famous for its exquisite carpets of varying designs. This is accessible
by the APSTC (Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Corporation) and ASTC (Assam State Transport
Corporation) buses from Guwahati, Tezpur, Tawang and Itanagar.
5. Tawang Monastry:

Tawang (~10,000 ft above MSL), has the world-famous 400 year old Buddhist
Monastery, one of the biggest monasteries in India. It was founded by a monk, Mera Lama, a
contemporary of the fifth Dalai Lama. The Monastery is also called ‘Galden Namgyal Lhatse’. It
has a 18 ft high gilded statue of the Lord Buddha, a big hall and and an old library where one can
find the rare hand written and block-printed manuscripts of the teaching of Lord Buddha.
