1. Miao: Miao is a small but charming tourist destination and is famous for colourful woollen
carpets. These carpets are adorned with various complicated designs and mainly made by the local
tribes, who are beleived to be the refugees from Tibet. It also has a Mini Zoo.
Kharsang is a near by oil drilling point. Plywood and veneer mills are also a place to visit.
Activities like hiking and trekking take place at Miao throughout the year. Nearby lies
the river Noadihing, famous for the angling activities.
2. Namdapha National Park:

The Namdhapa National Park is named according to the river Namdapha,
a tributory of Bramhaputra. This reserve forest is one of the best among the world. The unique
feature of the park is that it is the only one park in the world in which four of the great
felines are found viz., the tiger, the leopard, the snow leopard and the clouded leopard.
Apart from that it has 96 species of mammals out of which 29 species are on schedule I of the
Wildlife Act. Some of the inhabitants of the Park include the gaur or mithun, elephant, Himalayan
black bear, takin, a wild goat peculiar to the Patkoi range, musk deer, slow loris, binturong and
the red panda. A new species the Namdapha flying squirrel was discovered for the first time in
1983. |

Several primate species like the Assamese macaque, pig-tailed macaque, stump-tailed macaque
and the hoolock gibbon can be found in the area. The White winged Wood Ducks, a rare and endangered
species, the great Indian Hornbills, Jungle Fowls and Pheasants flock through the jungles.
The inaccessable nature of the park helped in preserving the pristine quality of the region. The
Park is also a Tiger Reserve under Project Tiger. The best time to visit the Park is from October
to March. It is also an ideal place for trekking and hiking. |
