OK,
A quick note to let everyone know what the newest developments are I got my assignment. I will be teaching English in a University of science and technology in Agadir. Agadir is a beach community in the south of Morocco. The climate is much like San Diego The plant life is much like San Diego. The surf is a lot like San Diego. However that's where the similarities end. It's a tourist city that caters to the rich Moroccans and Germans and French and Spanish. I'm here right now in Agadir. I am looking for a place to live and checking out the University, also talking with the local PC volunteers and finding out what the city is all about. I must return to Rabat next weekend to continue training. I feel lucky to get out of Rabat it certainly feels like a little prison....I have to go to school everyday and I have a family there that keeps tabs on me all the time. I left there Friday and traveled to Marrakesh on the train . I stayed there overnight with friends. It was amazing...My first real taste of Morocco. I sat in the middle of the town square eating beans and bread while music dancing snake charmers and wedding went on all around me...Incredible. Also very different from Rabat. While Im here in Agadir Im staying with different people and there is no real schedule... Other than the fact I have to be back in Rabat by Sunday. I forgot to mention that there was one bad thing that happened in Marrakesh. We were walking around in a huge crush of people and someone stole my sleeping bag right out of the holder in the backpack. I didn't even realize it but another volunteer asked me while we were walking. Hey... Didn't you have a sleeping bag back there, OH SHIT. I was pretty pissed off and Im not sure what Im going to do. All in all the people are nice, but it's a poor country and as foreigners there are people who will take advantage of us, or at least try. Gotta go, there is a big dinner being planned by a family here who have been waiting for the new volunteers (that's me) and they want to meet me tonight. Tomorrow I'm gonna surf the Agadir break.....Interesting to come this far from home only to live in a place exactly the same well.....not really. Love, |
