You should consider the following before you go out to buy a computer, 

- What is the computer going to be use for. (such as, office, games, word process, internet, etc.)

- what is your budget and how much knowledge you have on computers.

- when do you need a computer and how long you are planning to keep the computer.

Because computer changes rapidly   this days and therefore prices changes too.

To avoid making yourself mad: Don't go back to the stores and see how much it cost after you bought it, because most likely the prices are lower.  Unless there is price protection!

*If you update to newer software frequently, usually you have to upgrade your computer.   For  example, Windows 9x requires min. 16MB Ram, but Windows2000 requires about 64MB Ram, Windows XP requires 128MB ram

It is recommended for those who doesn't know too much about computers to purchasing a Brand name such as IBM, Dell, etc. Because big companies have better customer support, warranty and more software included.

It is recommended for those have a small budget to purchasing a No Name (Colone)  or  those want to have the choice of configuration and the brand of products.
