30 Year Anniversary Celebrations

The chlorine plant at Talcahuano started up 30 years ago, September 18, 1970. Oxy-Chile celebrated this occasion and the 30 years of safe and successful operation of the plant with a variety of activities.

In Santiago where our commercial and financial functions are headquartered, the staff and their spouses enjoyed a dinner, show and dancing at the Bali Hai Restaurant.   The show included traditional dances from various regions of Chile with even more costume changes than shown here. Several gentlemen in our group (including Artie who added a cartwheel) were invited up to dance with the professionals. After the show, many of our group danced.

To begin the celebration at the plant in Talcahuano, there was a 3-way futbol (soccer) competion between two plant teams and one team of fellows from the Santiago Business office. This was the first time that Artie and I got to see a soccer match. That evening the participants enjoyed a celebration dinner. The following night was the official 30 year anniversary for the plant employees and their spouses. This included a reception, formal dinner, entertainment, and a dance.

Large display boards were in the reception area during the celebration. Here were displayed photographs of the plant's history, the winners of the children's coloring contest, and notes of greetings from people who couldn't make it to the celebration, including many from people in Dallas. Slides of faces and events in the past were projected on a screen in the corner.

No such evening would be complete without speeches, but these were short and congratulatory.
