Local Scenes in Santiago

The city is a mixture of old and new. We took this picture from the top of a bridge that spans the river in Santiago. When we first arrived, the river was dry because of a severe drought that resulted in hydro power curtailments and planned electrical outages. There has been enough rain (and snow in the mountains) since then, so we always have electricity, and there is water in the river.

The AAC House is the gathering place for members of the American Association of Chile. It isn't typical of a city house in that there is landscaping outside of the wall that surrounds it. Yards are generally inside the fences that surround the houses.

the library at the AAC House

AAC House is especially busy on Thursday afternoons when the book and video libraries are open and when various members bring food and gift items to sell. Can you spot our parents in this picture of the library? We went to pick up our pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving.

The Prince of Wales Country Club in Santiago has a lovely view of the Andes mountains. We have joined this club, where we can entertain, dine, play golf, tennis, work out, swim, and even take painting lessons. We just hosted our staff Christmas party here. It was a barbecue with games both for the children and the adults. Santa even appeared with a bag of gifts for the children, and a photographer took pictures of everyone.
