Dawn and Peter

When Peter and Dawn Visited...

4 - 18 January 2001

Adella and Daddy were still here for the last few days of their 2nd visit, so it was nice having 3 different generations in our apartment at the same time. This was the first opportunity for Dawn to meet Peter's grandfather and Adella. It was a nice time for everyone to get to know one another before Peter and Dawn's wedding in August.

On Saturday, we all went to spend the day at Franz Horn's farm. It was a glorious summer day, with interesting activities, wonderful company and lots of delicious summer fruits. We brought home a big box of delicious apricots that we picked fresh from the tree.   sunflowers

After a yummy barbecue with the selection of fresh farm grown fruits for dessert, Franz showed Peter and Dawn around the farm. They saw some of the fruit harvesting and visited the flock of rheas.   ready for a horseback ride

Peter and Dawn enjoyed a horseback ride with Franz and some of the boys, while the rest of us visited.
Dawn can't resist petting a puppy Dawn got a rhea feather that she put on her hat.

Franz gave them two fresh rhea eggs to bring home, so the next day we made small holes in each end of one, so we could blow out the egg without harming the shell.

Anyone who has ever blown eggs, knows that this isn't easy. Imagine if you will, an egg that is the equivalent of a dozen hen's eggs and with an extremely hard shell. It was quite a project, and we repeated it the following day with the other egg! Delicious! French toast one day and a scrambled egg the next.

one giant egg goes a LONG way!
One day we took a day trip to the Maipo Valley and scrambled around on these rocks. It was after this that Artie and I both bought hiking boots, which have been very useful in this mountainous country.
