Sunset over Copacabana Beach in Rio

The famed Copacabana Beach at sunrise. This was the view Artie had from his hotel room on his first visit to Rio at the end of May 1999. We stayed at a hotel on Ipanema Beach when I went there with him in mid July.

We had our driver/guide take this picture of us in front of Sugar Loaf.
We took the aerial car up to the top of the mountain where we are standing, and then we took a different aerial car to the top of Sugar Loaf.

We hoped that the cloud shrouding the top would move aside. The experience was interesting anyway!

This is a view of a different mountain in the city. If you look closely, you might be able to see the statue of Christ the Redeemer on top.

Of course, when you are at the top of the mountain, the statue is absolutely HUGE, even when it is in a cloud!

The Cascade of Taunay is in the largest tropical forest located within a city.

Artie and I are standing in front of the huge stadium in Rio. I can't remember which event it was built for, but I do remember being astounded when I heard the number of people it would seat. Every man, woman, and child in Endicott could invite 3 people from other towns to join them!

I kept wondering where everyone could park.
