Annual Orchids
In order to survive the changing seasons of droughts and rains,most annual plants in the tropical monsoon forests would prepare themselves in various ways. A variety of orchids will develop their tubers and root-stem tuberoids for their future nourishments,by being in the dormancy status during the drought period and to be ready for the new budding when the rainy season approaches.With their most delightful flowers,these orchids are scarcely found in dry evergreen,mixed deciduous and evergreen forests.
Geodorum citrinum
A terestrial orchid with underground pseudobulbs found growing in evergreen forests throughout the country. Flowering is in the rainy season.
Habenaria rhodocheila
A terrestrial orchid with an underground root-stem tuberoid found growing on moist rocks in evergreen forests. The various colorful flowering,depend on the clones, is in the rainy season.
Pecteilis susannae
A large terrestrial orchid,which has a long lip spur with a night-time sweet fragrance to attract moths, found growing in open areas of dipterocarp forests from the north-eastern through the southern regions. Fowering is in the rainy season.
Hemipilia calophylla
A terestrial orchid with the nice mottled leaves found growing in montane forests at Doi Chiang Dao,Chiangmai province.Flowering is in the rainy season.
