The Habitat of Thai Orchids
It is undeniable that forets in Thailand, being the habitats of these orchids, have been gradually destroyed. However, there are still some orchids left in the forests for those who would like to appreciate and stuby these valuable plants. Locations fot those interested parties would include the National Parks and Wildife Sanctuaries where nature trails have been provided. Besides there are some other study centers whereby orchids have been collected to grow in the Gardens or the Natural Study Centers.
In order to appreciate the orchids in their habitais more effectively, it is recommended that various equipment should be used to facilitat this study. The first apparatus will include the telescope to be used for the observation of orchids which are attached to rocky cliffs or on high barks. Also, it is advisable to use a high quality magnifier to observe and identify various orchids which are very tiny. Another recommendation is to use a memorandum to keep track of the details on the orchids found and of other related information such as types of habitats, etc. Moreover, photography or video recording would be beneficial for the identification of the appropriate species of orchids in Thailan. The North
Doi Inthanon National Park
With the highest mountain peak of 2,565 meters, this park is located in chiang Mai and it is considered to be the most important orchid study center in the northern part of Thailand. A variety of orchids can be found in many forest conditions ranging from the deciduous found in many forest conditions ranging from the deciduous forests at the foot hill to the montane forests at the top of the mountain. This park is the house of moue than one fourth of all orchids found in Thailand. The most often found species are Dendrobium infundibulum and other in the same genus. Moreover, along the Keo Mae Pan Nature Trail nearing the summit of the park, plentiful of rare montane orchids can be found.
Doi Chiang Dao Wildife Sanctrary
Located in Chiangmai province, this sanctrary has been very popular in attracting interested orchid lovers owing to its gecographical location of steep mountain with its highest peak measured at 2,195 meters. However, orchids grown in this sanctuary are defined as Sub-Alpine plants which are quite different from the species found on other high mountains. Therefore, especially during the rainy season, outstanding species of orchids can be found here such as Amitostigma thailandicum, bulbophyllum albibracteum and Calanthe simplex, etc.
