In 1990 Congress Mandated a Multi State Rail Task Force be started to evalueate the need for a Chicago - Miami train service. The Midwest to Florida Rail Coalition was born with Georgia and Tennessee being major players in the study. Amtrak Identified the Chicago - Evansville - Nashville- Chattanooga- Atlanta- Macon - Jacksonville- Miami route as the fastest. But at the time the more costly alternitive due to lack of Stations and Facilities over most of the route. Indianapolis and Louisville were bypassed largely due to track conditions between Indianapolis and Louisville and thus the Coalition could not gain much needed public and political support in Indiana and Kentucky need for its sucess. |

1990 - 1995 Louisville Rail Task Force In 1990 The Louisville Board of Alderman established a rail task force to explore rail transportation options for the City of Louisville under the leadership of Alderman Tom Owen and Tom Denning. The committie recieved an operating grant of $25,000 from the aldermatic board to fund its existance in the upcomming years. One the left you see the cover of a brochure created by the Rail Task Force to better educate Louisvillians about Intercity, Commuter and light rail options. These Brochures were distributed at the 1992 State Fair and were a valuable tool in regenerating interest in rail passenger service as an alternitive to Kentuckians Featured in this brochure was the Golden Triangle of rail service between Louisville- Cincinnati, Lexington- Cincinnati, Louisville- Frankfort- Lexington , Louisville- Indianapolis and Indianapolis- Cincinnati and long distance service from Chicago to Floridia abd the Gulf Coast |
