Why is it at reunions you feel younger than everyone else in your age bracket looks?

WHAT’S HAPPENING?

The Time Has Come !  As you read this, you must face the fact that you are now older than you were yesterday, as are all your children, cousins, uncles, aunts, etc.  Time indeed marches on.  You cannot deny that July 3, 2005 just might be your last chance to visit with that long lost relative who like you is a part of the Mania gang.  I hope you are ALL planning to make this reunion of the Marx and Gangel families a fun, memorable occasion.  We need you to make it a success.  The party is scheduled to begin at noon, however this plan, as with all Marx-Gangel plans might require some adjustment.  Bishop Miege High School, the site of the gathering (G-4) is a stones throw from St. Agnes Church.  On Sunday, July 3, the 8:00 o’clock Mass will be offered in the names of  “GEORGE MARX, ELIZABETH GANGEL MARX, AND THEIR FAMILIES.  I feel confident that we will be allowed to assemble at the high school early, meaning immediately following the Mass.  An option to waiting till noon to begin the party would be to go to the basement of the church “The Parish Center” where coffee and donuts are served after Mass.  We are planning to have more than enough food and beverage for at least three hundred Gang members.   See you on the 3rd of July

Blast Off ….. Splash Down:   G-4 will blast off with a bang.  On July 2, Alison Henley, daughter of Cheryl Henley and granddaughter of Sam, will be marrying Arturo Caballero, Jr.  Cheryl extends an invitation to any and all the gang to come to the wedding and the reception.  Check with Sam for details.   Splash down as G-4 comes to a close  on Friday, July 8,  Dianne, daughter of Jim {George & Lib} will be married to Mike McCoart.  What a great way to start off and finish a reunion; the beginning of a new family life for two of our own.  Congratulations and best wishes to the soon to be newlyweds.

Joe B. Hauber {Joe and Margaret Marx Hauber} sends this message: Sam, As always great to get the Mania.  Sorry to say I won’t be able to get back in July.  We have too many trips that we need to take this year with not enough time or money.  Two to Georgia and one or two back to KC yet this  year.  We were there a couple of weeks ago for Eric’s {Rick – Joe & Margaret M. Hauber} wedding.  We wish Eric and bride Ashley the best for the future.  Also, Ken and Annette {Joe & Margaret} Murphy’s son graduated from KU.  I would sure like a copy of Bill’s picture CD and any family tree info anyone might have.  I hope to put together Dad & Mom’s old pix before Thanksgiving.  Hope you all have the best reunion ever – wish we could have made the trip.  If anyone ever gets down this way (Arlington, TX) give us a holler.     Joe

Paul Marx {Joe & Louise}, Bonnie Gangel Schuster {Vic}, and Sandy Aberer – Jim Jr.  {Jim & Frances Marx Aberer} have been communicating via e-mail, filling in gaps in the Marx and Gangel family trees.  Sandy is interested in the Marx side, Bonnie the Gangel side, and Paul states, “I am a Marx on my Father’s side and a Gangel on my Mother’s.  Lib Gangel Marx and my maternal Grandmother Mary Louise Gangel O’Connell were cousins.  If anyone of the Gangel/Marx Gang has genealogical information to share, Paul, Sandy and Bonnie would like to talk with you at G-4.  I’m sure we can arrange an area, maybe a table, for genealogy info.

Ed Marx, son of Bill who is son of George & Lib writes from Taiwan:  Don’t believe everything retired people say, they have too much free time.  My parents, Bill and Mary Ann tell you all this stuff I’m doing in their letters, so I decided to write a relevant note that has nothing to do with what I’m doing or what’s happening.  When I share the following dream with people here in Taiwan (Western English speaking people) I get mostly blank stares and a distant “uh” as a reaction.  So I decided to submit it to the Mania so that people who can relate to it better, might enjoy it.  It was a real dream I had a few weeks ago before actually knowing that I would be able to go to KC in July.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ:  I watched anxiously as my cousins lit fire crackers with their cigarettes in the driveway.  I felt alienated from the Fourth of July fun due to my inadequacy to develop the bad habit that presented itself to be so useful at this time.  Vainly, I searched the area for a usable punk.  Not finding one, I looked for other means to distract myself.  The half melted ice chest full of beer came to mind as a more than adequate alternative to the fireworks festivities,  As I approached the ice chest, a wave of fear overcame me as I noticed that no one was about, and the electric bottle openers everyone was using might not be available to open the bottles.  To my relief, scattered about the ice chest were bottle openers of all shapes, colors, and sizes.  Not the cool electric ones, but openers perfectly adequate for the cause.  Then I woke up   I had a good feeling after waking from this dream, and I think it shows some of my experience for the G-4.  If it’s half as good as the last one, it will be worth flying halfway around the world for.                         Ed (Son of B.J. Marx)

Nick Webber {Russ & Barbara Marx {Fred & Mary K. Marx} Webber) will not attend G-4:  He has to work that day! --- Read on for a message from one of the numerous Barbara Marxes.  A Fred Marx Family Update by Barb (eldest daughter):  During the months of May and June, Fred and Mary Kathryn have traveled many miles as they proudly followed their grandkids activities.  First they traveled to St. Charles/Louis, MO to watch Jessica, Amy and Courtney Marx (Greg and Tammy’s girls) play soccer and celebrate Amy’s First Communion.  Next was a gathering in Columbia, MO to congratulate David McCunniff, son of Michael and Janice Marx McCunniff’ on his graduation from Truman State University.  The next weekend they could have gone back to St. Louis to watch Kelly McCunniff, daughter of Michael & Janice swim and set two personal best times in state competition, but they were already booked to go to Montgomery, Alabama with Barb, Russ and  Eric Webber to watch Nick Webber and his Central Missouri State University baseball team play in the NCAA Division ll World Series.  Nick and the CMSU Mules captured third place again this year after a tough loss in the semi-finals  Janice and Michael also joined the baseball boosters for the last two games, and the whole group made another stop in St. Charles, MO to visit Greg and his family on the way home.

Although Nick’s team did not win the national championship, he and all the Marxs/Webbers have much to celebrate.  Nick Webber was selected in the second round of the 2005 Major League Baseball draft, by the St. Louis Cardinals.  So Nick gets to continue his travels.  He leaves June 11 for five days of mini camp in Florida, then flies to New Jersey for two and a half months of games with the Cardinal’s Class A minor league team.  Needless to say, everyone is thrilled for Nick and he is anxious to get started.  He was grinning with pride as he signed his contract and the scout told him,  “Congratulations, you are now a St. Louis Cardinal”.

Additional family information will happily be shared by proud Grandpa Fred and Grandma Mary Kay at the reunion.  See you there! *** Nick is a left handed relief pitcher, and was the closer at CMSU.

EMERGENCY ALERT !   For Gang members driving to G-4 The KC area is inundated with orange barrels marking “Work Areas”.  In particular, I-35 and I-635 have portions completely closed,  with.entrance and exit ramps blocked off.  I-35 from the north/east is under repair directly in the route to exit at Mission Road/Southwest Blvd.  If you plan to use these interstates, e-mail or call for help in deciding routes and detours.  E-Mail at samnellam@juno.com
