Brightsand Lake is located about 4 hours from Edmonton, about 1 ¼ hours from Lloydminster, and about 3 hours from Saskatoon. The cabin is in the Evergreen Beach subdivision on the eastern side of the lake. This lake community is recognized as the most desirable on the lake for a variety of reasons including the mature trees and beautiful cabins. The closest towns are St. Walburg and Turtleford, two communities that offer all services.

Brightsand Lake is a beautiful clean lake (24 sq. miles) that is quiet and largely undeveloped. At its deepest the lake is 80 feet, however, from the shore it slopes gently which is perfect for children.

The cottage has three bedrooms, a four-piece bath, a large living room, and an oak kitchen. Sixteen large windows provide extensive lighting throughout the living room and kitchen. Each bedroom is good sized and has a large window. Over 800 sq. ft. of decking gives additional living space with a complete set of patio furniture on the south and west sides of the cabin. The open beam interior (19 feet at the front of the cabin) is finished in pine with cedar accents. All rooms and areas are carpeted except the entrance, kitchen, and hearth area where Italian ceramic tile has been laid. Each room has a baseboard heater, however, the efficient woodstove and ceiling fan are usually all that is required for comfort even in -30C in the winter months. The cabin is quality constructed (2 X 6) throughout including oak doors.

The 140-foot natural sand beach has beach toys and a fire pit. The lake bottom is a mix of sand and some rock. A pier will be built for the 2000 summer season.

Kitchen: The kitchen highlights include beautiful solid oak cabinets, a new countertop with beveled oak trim, and Italian ceramic tile. A new stove, new refrigerator, microwave, and freezer make the storage and preparation of your meals a breeze. Look on the expansive deck for a 40,000 BTU large barbecue with an extra tank to ensure you're never out of propane. Small appliances in the kitchen include popcorn maker, toaster, blender, and coffee maker. All the pots, pans, dishes, and kitchen utensils you will need are there for you. A double sink is there for you - sorry, a dishwasher isn't but, hey, this is supposed to be a lake cabin!

The water is good and comes from a private well. Some visitors prefer to bring their own drinking water although most use the well water for everything.

Doug's Observations: Bring the growlies and you are totally set up!

Living Room: The living room is huge and is incredibly light and open. A 19-foot cathedral ceiling finished in pine plus the 16 windows open up the cabin to the outdoors. Two sets of patio doors lead to the 800 sq. foot deck.

The living room includes chairs, a hide-a-bed sofa, coffee and end tables, a television and VCR in an entertainment centre (pine). Two television channels (CBC and CTV) are clear for those rainy days or for late night news addicts. The crackling wood stove adds warmth and heat to your stay. The woodbox is against the far wall for your convenience.

Doug's Observations: This is a beautiful area where relaxation occurs naturally. You'll think you are outdoors with the beauty of mature spruce trees all round you.

16 windows to the outdoors

Bedroom #1 - The Pine Quarters: A double bed with baseboard heater, a large window, a good size dresser, clock radio, and lamp make this a very comfortable sleep zone. This bedroom is located immediately next to the bathroom.

Doug's Observations: Private and restful.
Fresh air + vacation time = a great sleep during your stay.

The Pine Quarters

Bedroom #2 - The Kids Korner: A bunk bed is perfect for the children (at least it has been for mine). A large window and baseboard heater adds to the comfort. A television with 5 video games (Sega Genesis currently connected) is available for use if desirable. Hey, it can't be great weather all the time - this is Canada.

Doug's Observations: What child doesn't like a bunk bed? Throw in plenty of toys and video games and you've got an exciting part of the children's vacation.

Bedroom #3 - The Cedar Quarters: A double bed with a baseboard heater along with a good-size dresser makes this a very comfortable room. This is our guestroom and many visitors have enjoyed this space during their visit.

Doug's Observations: Cedar in Saskatchewan? A cozy room that many have appreciated. And no, the cedar is actually from B.C.

Bathroom - A four-piece bathroom finished in cedar and pine allows you to holiday at the lake with comfort. A baseboard heater adds heat if required.

Doug's Observations: The bathroom brings you the comforts of home in a quiet, lake setting.

Comforts of home

The Decks - Wow! Over 800 sq. feet of decking with two complete sets of patio furniture, loads of plants, and a gas barbecue. A four-foot overhang allows you to sit out and barbecue should the weather be "iffy". How does breakfast on the south deck and supper on the west deck sound to you? Too hot for you in the afternoon? How about sitting under the 70-foot spruce tree that is found at the corner of the deck?

Doug's Observations: Our visitors love the decks! The beautiful trees, the plants, and the different sun exposures give you a great spot to be when you're not on the beach or inside the cabin.
